The Lady Bisons earned their first conference win over Kennesaw State 79-61 Saturday in Allen Arena. Junior Ashley Southern posted a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Danay Fothergill followed with 18 points. Sophomore Chandler Cooper added 16 points. Lipscomb led 35-26 at halftime and never looked back. The Lady Bisons maintained the lead the entire second half. Southern scored 16 of her 26 in the second half. The Lady Bisons created 17 points off of Kennesaw State turnovers. The coaches were very pleased with how Lipscomb responded to the game plan put into place. “We put in the game plan to get the ball to Ashley [Southern] in the paint,” assistant coach Courtney Locke said. “Our girls did a great job of executing that game plan, as well as the game plan on the defensive end.” Kennesaw State’s Deandrea Sawyers scored 24 and grabbed nine rebounds. Kennesaw State fell to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic Sun. Lipscomb improved to 6-11 overall and 1-2 in the A-Sun. The Lady Bisons improve to 4-6 on the season with their 72-53 win over Tennessee Tech. Ashley Southern led the team with 19 points and 11 rebounds marking her 25th career double double. Chandler Cooper had 12 points and senior Sara Bliss did as well, while Danay Fothergill finished with 10 points. Cooper was also 4-9 from the three point line. The Lady Bisons shot just over 40% from the field and 78.3% from the free throw line. The Golden Eagles trailed the entire game. Lipscomb led 26-21 at the half before scoring 46 points in the second half to secure the win. Saturday the Lady Bisons take on Xavier as they travel up to Cincinnati. After the matchup on Saturday, the team will have a break for Christmas before traveling down to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Holiday Tournament that begins Dec. 29. Photo courtesy of Lipscomb...

The Lady Bisons defeated Jackson State 72-45 last night in Allen Arena. Senior guard Sara Bliss led the way for Lipscomb, scoring 17 points. Freshman guard Amber Fuqua added a career-best — eight points and four rebounds. Freshman forward Riley Northway grabbed a career-high with five rebounds. Freshman guard Emily Eubank added a career-high with four steals. The victory broke a three-game losing streak for the Lady Bisons at home. Jackson State’s 45 points was the second-lowest point total this season. Lipscomb shot 44.6% from the field. Jackson State was held to 22.2% from field goals. The Lady Bisons soccer team just completed a record-breaking regular season, and look to take the season even further this weekend. The team finished regular season play Friday Oct. 24 against Northern Kentucky. The game ended in a 2-0 loss, but the team finished with a 10-6-2 overall record, and the no. 2 spot going into the conference tournament. This 2014 season is the first season the Lipscomb women’s team has had a winning record. The Lady Bisons have also only made it into the tournament one other year, and that was last year. A change in coaching staff back in the spring of 2012 is a huge part of the program’s turnaround. Junior Emily Shuler was recruited to Lipscomb before the coaching change, and said she would have looked elsewhere had she been aware of the programs record, but she is thrilled with the change. “When I looked at Lipscomb’s website for them to come watch [me play], I remember their record was like, two wins, maybe. I was like, what am I doing, like why did I ask them to come, and it ended up being awesome,” Shuler said. “Now we’re at a place where we’ve got five times that for wins if not more.” Senior Karli Crosby played on the team before head coach Kevin O’Brien was hired, and she has seen first hand how much of a difference he has made. “We’ve gotten better every single year ever since OB (O’Brien) got here. The Lady Bison Volleyball team fought hard throughout the Lipscomb Invitational, but came up short in the end. In the last match of the tournament, the Lady Bisons faced the Utes of Utah. The Pac-12 team beat Georgia Tech in three sets and ETSU in three, but Lipscomb took the Utes to four sets. The team lost the first two sets right out of the gate. The first set 25-18 and the second 25-17, but going into the locker room head coach Brandon Rosenthal had a talk with his team to get them prepared for set three. “There was a talk with the team. There’s an expectation that they’ve set, and it’s their responsibility to go after it,” Rosenthal said. Following the first two sets, the Lady Bisons came out on fire to win the third set 25-15 becoming the first team in the tournament to take Utah to four sets. Despite their efforts, the Lady Bisons came up three points short in the final set losing 25-22; however, Rosenthal was pleased with the effort from his team. “The talk after the match was just, hey I like what I saw,” Rosenthal said. “There is no chewing out or what not, well there was a little chewing out between two and three, but after the match, I mean, they gave me everything they had there in two and three, and that’s all you can ask for, and I’m really pleased with that.” At the end of the match, the Lady Bisons had more kills than the Utes, but were out-blocked.
