The Lipscomb baseball team swept the games against Quinnipiac this weekend at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. Though the weekend got off to a rainy start, the Bisons won 5-0 in Friday night’s game. The Bisons brought their record 10-5 Saturday night when they won 9-4. As the rain cleared Sunday, the Bisons took a 3-1 victory. In Friday’s rainy matchup, neither team scored until the fifth inning, where the Bisons took the lead with two runs. Senior pitcher Ian Martinez-McGraw allowed only three hits from the Bobcats in eight scoreless frames. Freshman center fielder Michael Gigliotti made a leadoff double into left field just before running home to score in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, the Bisons evened out the score with two insurance tallies. Lipscomb scored five runs in Friday’s matchup, marking the first time the Bisons have won without scoring seven runs this season. The Bisons returned to the diamond Saturday afternoon, where the Quinnipiac Bobcats took the lead with runs in the second and third innings. But Lipscomb responded with a two-run frame in the home half of the third. To get the Bisons’s offense started, senior second baseman Mike Korte and junior first baseman Adam Lee scored back-to-back solo home runs. Lipscomb took its first lead in the fourth inning after senior left fielder Jonathan Allison drew a lead-off walk. In the bottom of the fifth the Bobcats created a small rally after Mike Palladino knocked a two-out single to right. The Bisons responded taking the lead with a four-run frame. The Lipscomb baseball team defeated Tennessee Tech 7-1 on the rainy Tuesday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. The Bisons were down 1-0 early, due to a home run by the Golden Eagles’ designated hitter Ryan Flick. This run by Flick was the only one Tennessee Tech got the entire game. But it didn’t take long for Lipscomb to answer with a run-scoring double by senior Jonathan Allison in the bottom of the third. The tie of 1-1 didn’t break until the bottom of the fifth. Lipscomb freshman Jeffrey Crisan helped break the tie by getting a sacrifice fly to right field. He was not the only freshman to have a good day at the plate. Freshman Michael Gigliotti had three runs and said that getting those runs and RBI’s were all about his mindset. “Bunting to me is religious,” Gigliotti said. “I work on bunting as much as hitting. When you have speed, it is a great tool to get on base and score some runs.” Gigliotti now has six bunt base hits on the season. Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand said that he was proud of Gigliotti’s and the other team member’s contributions, whether it was on the field or at the plate. After leading 2-1 at the beginning of the game, the Lipscomb baseball team lost 5-2 to Austin Peay Wednesday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. The initial lead faded in the top of the fifth, as the Governors tied it up with a run-scoring double by starting pitcher Alex Robles. The game slipped away from Lipscomb after the seventh inning. Austin Peay scored two more runs on a single in the top of the eighth. Robles got his second run scoring double to give the Governors a five to two lead. Junior Jaesung (J) Hwang, the Bisons starting pitcher, made his first appearance since May 2013. He pitched five innings and got a no decision for his intial start this year. “J was great,” Lipscomb coach Jeff Forehand said. “We have been anxiously awaiting his return. He is going to be one of our top guys. I thought he had a very solid performance.” Senior Grant Massey was the only Bison to have RBI’s for the whole game. He drove in two runs on a single in the bottom of the third inning. “I knew I had an open bag,” Massey said. “So I knew he would probably go off speed right there and pound it away. I was looking outside and pounded the four hole right there.” Massey added that the Bisons were able to turn the most double plays of the season, with three in one game. “J was hitting his spots everywhere, keeping the ball down and putting it where it needed to go to get ground balls,” Massey said. “It was easy from there on out.” The...

The Lipscomb baseball team finished the season-opener with a complete sweep against Butler this weekend at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. Due to Sunday’s weather forecast, the Bisons played a doubleheader on Saturday. In the first game on Friday, Lipscomb struggled to get hits and was down 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bisons began to rally when sophomore Hunter Hanks got a two-run double. Lipscomb scored an insurance run after hitting a single and piled on three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to win the game 9-3. The Bisons got off to a hot start in the second game, as an error by the Bulldogs’ shortstop led to a three run rally. Lipscomb played small ball, scoring on a sacrifice bunt and hitting three singles in the second inning. Both Lipscomb and Butler’s bullpens blew up, and the score was tied 8-8 in the bottom of the ninth. The bases were loaded as redshirt junior Adam Lee stepped up to the plate. The first pitch thrown by the reliever led to a walk-off, hit-by-pitch for a Bisons win of 9-8. In the final game, Lipscomb started out slowly, scoring one run in the first four innings. Filming for the upcoming movie “My Many Sons” will be taking place on Lipscomb’s campus until August 16. The film will detail the life of the late, legendary Lipscomb basketball coach Don Meyer. Production of the movie will continue in various locations across Nashville over the coming weeks, as well as Aberdeen, South Dakota, the location of Northern State, where Meyer coached for over a decade. Former Lipscomb student-athlete Casey Bond is heading the project. Bond, whose Bison baseball career led to a stint in the Minor Leagues, starred in the Oscar-nominated film Moneyball in 2011. “My Many Sons” depicts the relationships that Meyer forged with his players throughout his career and the impact he had on generations of young people. This story is not about wins or records, but rather about Coach’s relationships with players and their families,” Casey Bond told Lipscomb University, “It’s about how one man took the time to build character in young people, which is something we desperately need in our world today. Coach Meyer made the most of a very difficult situation in his life and ran with it.” Bond will be joined in his producer role by longtime Hollywood producer Brad Wilson. The two will be producing the film under their production company Higher Purpose Entertainment. Bond will also be playing the role of Don Meyer’s son Jerry in the film. He will be joined in the cast by former Oscar winner Tatum O’Neal as Carmen Meyer. Veteran Hollywood actor Judge Reinhold will be taking on the lead role of Don Meyer.
