With some musician friends in town for the week, I knew I’d be in charge of entertaining. Entertaining means late nights for me. I don’t do late nights well with my class schedule, but sometimes you’ve got to step out of the box and have some fun.

We all went to this great little hidden restaurant called City House in Germantown. There were about 15 of us all gathered around this long table situated in the middle of the main dining floor. We jumped at the chance to order one big dinner that we would all share. After 30 seconds of contemplation we ordered 10 pizzas consisting of zucchini, hot sauce, pork and cheese. We also got five bowls of fried octopus and calamari. I know, gross! Actually, though, it was really good. The owner cooked in the kitchen, which was open for everyone on the main dining floor to see. After we ate, we sat there for about 10 minutes holding our stomachs and talking about how amazing the food was. My friend was boasting about how amazing City House was because he picked it. We nodded in sarcastic agreement. We were too stuffed to argue.

After dinner, we got a few taxis into town to find a spot to hang out away from the country bars and restaurants downtown. I’m not much of a “hang out in a crowd and get pushed around” type of girl. Nor do I like having to scream at my friend to have a conversation. Therefore, we decided to go to Patterson House on Division St. in Nashville. It’s a really cool spot. It’s really chill–low music and dim lights. The booths are all enclosed, so the tables around you don’t bother you and everyone has a personal server. I ordered an orange cream soda, made from scratch, of course. I had three and felt like I was a 5 year old hanging out at Cracker Barrel. We sat and talked for hours about music, shows, our pets, families, children and, of course… where were we going next?

We all parted ways except four of us. We headed back to East Nashville to go to a little restaurant called Holland House. It’s got a very “city” atmosphere with cool lights and good music. The hostess waits at the door and seats everyone at elevated booths around the place. It was said to be a big hit a couple of years ago when Gwyneth Paltrow was in town, filming the movie “Country Strong.” She frequented Holland House every week with friends to have a drink after a long day.  I wasn’t too impressed with our experience. Hopefully, it’s usually much better ,and we just hit the place on a bad night. Then again, I’m sure everyone made sure Gwyneth had a good time. I mean she is Gwyneth Paltrow. Kudos, Holland House. Kudos.

Our night ended at The Hutton Hotel on West End. We sat around the lounge area chatting and people watching. The Hutton, as it’s usually called, is a prime spot to see celebrities, musicians and other notable people. It’s a newish, trendy hotel that has a great location and tons of rooms for meetings, dinners and just hanging out. I only lasted another 30 minutes at the Hutton before I said goodnight. My friends were staying there anyway so it was my perfect time to duck out. Multiply that eventful night by five, and now you know the outline of my week. What a drag. Psych!
