CORAL GABLES, FL – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team defeated the Miami Hurricanes 2-0 in their first away match of the season.
With the win over Miami, who represents the Atlantic Coast Conference, Lipscomb earns its second triumph in two attempts this year against a Power Five conference opponent. They bested Mississippi State 2-1 in their opening match of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper CJ Graham starred for the Bisons, earning a clean sheet despite facing 13 shots from the Hurricanes. She was forced to make four saves on the evening in order to keep Miami out of her goal for all 90 minutes.
Alongside Graham, defenders Emily Patti, Katia Hanger, and Logan McFadden put in full shifts as well, playing in every single minute of the match. McFadden, a Birmingham, Alabama, native, continued her streak of playing in every minute of every match all season for the Bisons.
In the attack, Lipscomb’s strikeforce was potent as ever. VCU transfer and Waldorf, Maryland-born Kale’a Perry found the back of the net for the second straight match, while Haley Williams, a freshman from St. Simons Island, Georgia, scored off the bench. Williams got the breakthrough goal with a left-footed effort into the bottom corner near the halftime whistle, and on the other side of the break, Perry found the back of the net with the same foot off an assist from debutant Allie Dunn. The junior winger from Oak Ridge started the match and contributed to a shot and the Perry assist in her 42 minutes.
Junior center midfielder Cami Rogers led Lipscomb in shots and shots on goal, with three and two respectively. Penn State transfer and center back Shelby Craft received the only disciplinary action of the match for the Bisons, earning her first yellow card of the season in the 42nd minute for an unsporting play.
Miami earned seven corner kicks but was unable to convert on any of them. Its backline held Lipscomb offside five times, while the Bisons earned only two corners and caught Miami offside once.
With the win, Lipscomb stays at a perfect record of 3-0-0. It will finish its long weekend in the Sunshine State when it travels across town to face Florida International on Sunday at 1 p.m. CDT.
