The Bison baseball team returned home from the Dominican Republic with a stronger sense of appreciation for what they have and formed bonds with one another that they believe will carry on into the season. The team served together on their first all-team mission trip where they renovated a local sandlot field. The guys built dugouts, put up a backstop, leveled the playing surface and spruced up the field. They worked from Dec. 12 to Dec. 19 alongside a pastor named Michel. When the team wasn’t hard at work they had some free time to kill. “When we weren’t working, we spent a lot of time playing with the kids in the local community,” senior Josh Lee said. Senior J Hwang talked about the impact simply spending time with the kids had on him. “The biggest impact for me was the relationship that I got to build with the community and the teammates that I went with,” Hwang said. “I spent a lot of time with the kids, just hanging out hours after hours even though I couldn’t speak Spanish.” Lee said he was most impacted by the lifestyle the people of the community lived, and the joy he saw in their lives. “The biggest impact the trip had on me was how happy and appreciative the people in the community were, especially the kids,” Lee said. “They have very little, but you wouldn’t know that because they never stopped smiling while we were there.” Not only did the trip impact the individual players on the team, but it also helped the team form strong bonds with one another....

The Lady Bisons improve to 4-6 on the season with their 72-53 win over Tennessee Tech. Ashley Southern led the team with 19 points and 11 rebounds marking her 25th career double double. Chandler Cooper had 12 points and senior Sara Bliss did as well, while Danay Fothergill finished with 10 points. Cooper was also 4-9 from the three point line. The Lady Bisons shot just over 40% from the field and 78.3% from the free throw line. The Golden Eagles trailed the entire game. Lipscomb led 26-21 at the half before scoring 46 points in the second half to secure the win. Saturday the Lady Bisons take on Xavier as they travel up to Cincinnati. After the matchup on Saturday, the team will have a break for Christmas before traveling down to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Holiday Tournament that begins Dec. 29. Photo courtesy of Lipscomb...

During the first game of a long road trip, the Bisons fell 106-61 in Austin, Tex. to the no. 9 Texas Longhorns. The Bisons never had the lead throughout the game, but did keep in close in the early minutes of the first half until the Longhorns started to run away with it. Senior Malcolm Smith was the leading scorer for the Bisons with 17 points while Myles Turner had 26 points for Texas. When it came to free throws, Lipscomb shot 60.9% from the line; however, the Longhorns had 14 more free throw attempts and shot 64.9%. At halftime, the Longhorns led 58-32, and the Bisons struggled with having their shots fall. The team was 19-62 from the field. Texas not only out-shot the Bisons, but also out-rebounded them. the Longhorns had 55 rebounds to Lipscomb’s 28. The Lady Bisons lost 3-0 to Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament to bring their season to a close. Friday night started out with an exciting up-beat atmosphere as the Lady Bisons took to Memorial Coliseum on Kentucky’s campus. Many Bison fans and parents made the trip to Lexington to support the team, and Lipscomb fans outnumbered Ohio State fans in attendance. Despite the amount of support for the Bisons, Ohio State took all three sets. The first set was a fight as the team came out strong only to fall 25-20. The Buckeyes dominated the second set winning 25-14, and completed the win with a 25-18 victory in the final set of the night. During the match, Ohio State won every aspect of play except number of attacks. The Lady Bisons had 109 attacks to the Buckeys’ 95; however, Ohio State finished with a .274 hitting percentage to Lipscomb’s .037. Senior Lauren Ford led the team with 10 kills, and sophomore Kayla Ostrom led with 28 assists. With the loss the Lady Bisons finish their season at 21-9 and the highest RPI ranking in program history, no. 33. The Lady Bisons lose four seniors to graduation in the spring, Lauren Ford, Sophie Kellerman, Megan Stout and Jordan Huston. Jewell Dobson will return for her redshirt season in the fall. The Lady Bisons Volleyball team received an at large bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time in Atlantic Sun history Sunday night. After the most recent RPI ranking was released on Nov. 24, the Lady Bisons moved into the no. 31 spot. Based on the wins throughout the season, different rankings during the season and their record of 21-8, the team was granted a bid into the NCAA tournament where they will face Ohio State in the first round. The Lady Bisons won the conference regular season championship, but fell to Jacksonville 3-1 in the tournament championship game. JU will take on Florida State in the first round of the NCAA tournament. It is the first time that the Atlantic Sun has placed two teams in the tournament.
