The Bisons’ bats paved the way to victory as they swept NJIT 11-2, 12-11 and 22-12 at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. Due to concerns of rain this weekend, the Bisons played a doubleheader on Friday and moved their start time to 3 p.m. to not have any weather delays. To open up the series in the first game, the Bisons scored a total of 11 runs. One of Lipscomb’s contributors was junior Hunter Hanks who had two home runs and a RBI single. “He played his best series of the year,” Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand said. “I think him focusing so much on studying for exams this weekend caused him to be able to play loose and relax.” Lipscomb rallied in the second game. Down by four runs in the ninth, the Bisons ended up winning the game in extra innings. They got a walk-off two-run RBI single from Lee Solomon to win the game in the bottom of the tenth. The final score in the second game was 12-11. In the final game of the series, the Bisons put up a school record of 22 runs to take the final game of the series 22-12. The biggest hit of the game was a grand slam by freshman Cade Sorrels for his first college-career home run. “I think we are maturing as hitters,” Forehand said. “We were able to put up some good at-bats and some great approaches at the plate, which led to all those runs.” This is the first sweep in Atlantic Sun play for the Bisons this year. “Any sweep in the conference is hard to...

The Bisons lost to the Jacksonville Dolphins 7-5 Friday and 2-0 Saturday, but they charged their way to victory 9-1 in the final game of the series Sunday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. In the first game, Lipscomb fell 7-5 to Jacksonville, on a ninth inning home-run by right fielder Austin Hays to give the Dolphins the victory. The big hit for Lipscomb in the game came from senior Chucky Vazquez with a two run home-run. The second game for the Bisons ended in 2-0 loss to Jacksonville. Another late inning rally by the Dolphins in the eighth, thanks to a single and an error, led to the two runs by Jacksonville. This is the first game that Lipscomb has been shutout in conference play this year. Lipscomb’s bats were on fire in the final game of the series as they won 9-1. The Bisons recorded 11 hits in the game. Lipscomb scored six of their nine runs in the fourth inning and batted through the order. “I believe our hitters are capable of doing this each game,” said Lipscomb head baseball coach Jeff Forehand. “Hitting is tough, especially when Jacksonville has very good pitching.” Vazquez continued his hitting at the plate in this game as he had three RBI’s on the day. This included another two-run home-run and a sac fly. “He [Vazquez] is a good hitter that has recently had bad luck,” Forehand said. “He had great at-bats, which led to a solid game for him today at the plate.” In the final game of the series, sophomore Brady Puckett pitched his fourth...

The Lipscomb baseball team took two of three games against USC Upstate in this weekend’s series at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium in Nashville. The Bisons fell 7-6 to USC in the first matchup, but came back with a 7-6 win Saturday afternoon and a 5-4 win Sunday. In the first game, Lipscomb fell to the Spartans 7-6. The big hit for the Bisons came on a home run by sophomore Allan Hooker. This home run was his first of the year. Lipscomb had a chance at a rally thanks to a balk by the Spartans’ pitcher that put Lipscomb only behind by one. The rally came up short as Lipscomb was unable to drive a runner home from third to tie the game. The second game for the Bisons ended in a walk-off hit by freshman Zeke Dodson in the bottom of the tenth to put the score at 7-6. Hooker also got his second home run of the year in the game. “He [Hooker] has been working hard on his swing,” said Lipscomb head baseball coach Jeff Forehand. “Hooker took advantage of good pitches to hit. We know that Hooker is very capable of hitting home runs, and I am proud of what he has been able to do at the plate.” The Bisons took the third game 5-4 on another walk-off from Dodson. “It is always great to have the winning hit,” Dodson said. “I can’t say enough about my teammates putting me in a great spot — I was just fortunate to be in the right spot both times.” With this series...

The Lipscomb baseball team rallied in the ninth but fell short as it lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores 4-3 Tuesday night. Vanderbilt scored four runs in the bottom of the third. The big hit for the Commodores came from sophomore right fielder Jeren Kendall on a two-run RBI double. Vanderbilt’s other runs came from an RBI single and an error made in the inning. Lipscomb scored two runs in the top of the sixth, with the first run coming from a solo home run by junior Hunter Hanks. “Hanks got in front of a changeup and was able to put a great swing on the ball,” said Lipscomb baseball head coach Jeff Forehand. “He was able to crack the lid on a scoring drought at the beginning of the game. It was a huge home run that started our scoring.” Lipscomb’s other two runs came from two RBI groundouts by freshman Tevin Symonette and sophomore Lee Solomon. The Bisons’ bullpen combination of freshman Alex Dorso and junior John Pryor gave up no runs for the rest of the game. “We finally got from our bullpen what we knew they were capable of doing tonight,” Forehand said. “John and Alex both had great outings. If we can get more consistency from our bullpen, like we did tonight, we should be able to have a great season.” Lipscomb will be at Dugan Field this weekend as it plays a three-game series against USC Upstate. “I hope we can build off of how we played in this game,” Forehand said. “We made a couple of mistakes in the third inning but were...

The Lipscomb baseball team wrapped up Easter weekend with a series against Mississippi Valley State, winning all three games — 7-1,11-1, 16-3. With these three wins, Lipscomb moves to 15-9 on the season. In the first game, the Bisons won 7-1. The big hit for Lipscomb came on a two-run, inside the park homerun by sophomore Michael Gigliotti. Starting pitcher and senior Cody Glenn pitched a complete game for the Bisons to take his record to 2-0 on the season. In the second game, the Bisons scored 11 runs to take the game 11-1. The game was shortened to seven innings by the coaches’ mutual agreement. It ended with a three-run homerun by Gigliotti. “I think Gigliotti would love to trade the homeruns for all the baseballs he hit on the nose,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “That is the funny part about this game.” For the three games, Lipscomb’s starting pitchers had two complete games and an eight inning performance by sophomore Brady Puckett, who also had a career high 11 strikeouts. “The plan is that you always want to rest your bullpen as much as possible,” Forehand said. “You want to have the relief pitchers only come in when they have to.” The Bisons dominated the Delta Devils in the last game 16-3. In the sixth inning the Bisons scored five runs. The biggest hit of the game came from senior Adam Lee, who hit a grand slam homerun. Sophomore Lee Solomon also had the school record for stolen bases in a game with five. “Coach Coon and Lee work on that a lot during practice,” Forehand said....
