The Lipscomb women’s cross country team won their fifth conference title on Oct. 30 at the Atlantic Sun Championship tournament in Jacksonville, Flordia. The men’s team also won their third conference title at the tournament. “It was not our course; it was really different in Florida,” junior Juan Gonzalez said. “We knew this year would be a lot tougher and with harder competition. From the start we led the pack and just did what we do well.” The Bisons captured point titles with a total of 22 for the men’s races and 19 for the women’s. North Florida placed second and Florida Gulf Coast placed third in both events. Entering the championships, the women were ranked as the top seed in the A-Sun and third in the South Region. The men were ranked first in conference and seventh in the South Region. “Given our past success, we were very confident going into conference,” Gonzalez said. “At the same time, we knew we had targets on our backs as not a lot of people were happy that we kept winning – which made them more hungry and motivated to beat us.” The Lady Bisons were the first team in conference history to have all nine runners on All-Conference teams. They won by a margin of 54 points, a score that tied them for the most points accumulated. Senior Madi Talbert won the individual championship race for the second year in a row, only the seventh time a Lipscomb women’s cross country runner has accomplished this feat. Freshman Brooke Kingma became the third Lady Bison to win the Freshman of the Year award. She earned a First-Team All-Conference...

The Lady Bisons are now 5-1 in conference matches after a victory against the Stetson Hatters on Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Lipscomb started off with both offense and defense dominating the first half with two goals. Sophomore Jade Abarca scored the Lady Bisons first goal of the match with a penalty kick in the first few minutes of the first half. Freshman Brooke Brenner followed the first goal with an unassisted goal to finish the first half of the play. The Lady Bisons continued their momentum into the second half with freshman Maycie McKay kicking her eighth goal of the season, assisted by Shuler. “The girls performed very well today, it is a step into the right direction and we need to be able to play like this for the rest of the conference,” Head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “We were aggressive and did not allow Stetson any room to breathe.” The Lady Bisons will travel to New Jersey to play NJIT in their seventh A-Sun match Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m.. The Lipscomb volleyball team extended their winning streak to 6-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference play after a 3-0 win over USC Upstate Friday night at Allen Arena. The Lady Bisons started off strong, taking the first set 25-20 in a close and tense encounter against the resilient USC Spartans. The second set was an even closer battle with momentum swings from both teams. The Lady Bisons displayed grit and came back to win 27-25. The Lady Bisons continued to be aggressive on both offense and defense, winning the third set 25-14. “We played ok — there was a lot we could have done better — we are now moving on and looking ahead onto our next match against Kennesaw,” sophomore Jenny Phelan said. Several came to not only witness the match but also support the recent tragedy that occurred at USC Upstate, with the death of four student athletes last weekend. At the end of the game Lipscomb University presented Upstate with a plaque filled with support from the whole Lipscomb community. “It is hard to play against them after the tragic news, but we knew that they were here to play and try not to think about it when we played,” Phelan said. “We just did what we needed to do.” The Lady Bisons will return to Allen Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m. to play against Kennesaw State to close out the first half of the A-Sun season. The Lipscomb men’s soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to North Florida in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Saturday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. More than 100 spectators came to watch the much anticipated match between the Bisons and the North Florida Ospreys. Both teams struggled to find rhythm in an intense first half with neither being able to score on the rain-soaked field. North Florida broke the silence in the second half with a goal from No. 5 sophomore Joshua Castellanos assisted by No. 9 senior Alex Morell. No. 2 sophomore Aiden D’Mello kicked the finishing goal, assisted by Morell. “I don’t think the score is indicative of how close the game actually was; we let it get away from us there at the end,” head coach Charles Morrow said, according to Lipscomb Athletics. “I don’t think we did a good job of preparing for them from a coaching perspective and I don’t think our guys played very well. It was just a bad combination. North Florida is definitely a team that I would welcome to play again in the tournament.” Up next the Bisons will play Jacksonville at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home. The Lipscomb (7-2-4) women’s soccer team took a 2-1 victory over the USC Upstate Spartans (2-8-1) on Saturday night at the rain-soaked Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The Lady Bisons applied immense pressure from both offensive and defensive ends from the beginning, allowing No. 5 senior Alex Hickey to score a goal in the first half, assisted by No. 16 sophomore Natalie DuBoise. No. 15 sophomore Emily Rogers scored her first goal of the year. “We played really well in the first half, and I think we started the second half well, and once Upstate scored the goal, I felt we lost a little bit of our composure,” said head coach Kevin O’Brien. The Spartans later replied with a goal from No. 6 senior Hailey Venable, after a drop-in intensity from the Bisons. O’Brien said the girls regained their composure and finished the match strongly in a tightly contested second half. “The game got a lot tighter and tenser, we were making mistakes that we were not making at the start and we’ve got to be able to manage the game better as a team,” O’Brien said. “As the game gets tighter, we can’t afford to panic and get frantic like we did.” Up next the Lady Bisons will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Dolphins on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. Photo courtesy of Lipscomb...
