Lady Bisons shutout Stetson, sweep series

Lady Bisons shutout Stetson, sweep series

The Lady Bisons added two more wins to their total on Friday, sweeping the Stetson Hatters in a double header.  Lipscomb defeated Stetson 5-0 in game one and 1-0 in game two. Going into Friday night the Lady Bisons knew that the double header against Stetson would be a pivotal one. Leading the Atlantic Sun by three games, Lipscomb did not want second place Stetson to gain any ground whatsoever. The Lady Bisons did just that, shutting out the Hatters in both games. Whitney Kiihnl pitched a complete game one-hitter to improve her record to 23-2 on the season.  This was also her ninth shutout of the season. Abby Keese, the leading hitter for the A-Sun, and Kellie Sirus, slugging percentage leader for the A-Sun, both homered for the Lady Bisons. Lauren Dortwegt and Christen Campbell each added two hits a piece for Lipscomb.  Sirus, along with her home run, had 4 RBIs in game one. Game one’s box score can be viewed here. Game two of the evening would result in a shutout as well, this time though because of pitcher Christen Campbell. Shutting out Stetson, the Lady Bisons’ lone run would come courtesy of a solo home run from Courtney Billington.  This was Billington’s fourth home run of the season. Game two’s box score can be viewed here. The two wins improved the Lipscomb’s record to 35-9 overall and 12-2 in the Atlantic Sun. The Lady Bisons will host Florida Gulf Coast Tomorrow at Draper Diamond at 12 and 2 p.m. Be sure to check back at Lumination Network for more game...

Adnan Hodzic declares for NBA draft

Adnan Hodzic declares for NBA draft

Bisons power forward Adnan Hodzic has declared for the NBA draft. Hodzic is coming off of his best season to date, averaging 22.7 points and 9.1 rebounds this season.  That performance earned him his second consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year title, and also an Honorable Mention All-American award. His 2009-2010 statistics were up from 17.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game from his sophomore season.  Down the stretch this past season, the Sarajevo, Bosnia, native averaged 30 points and 18.3 rebounds. Hodzic has scored in double figures in a remarkable 57 consecutive games.  That streak is the longest active streak in the nation. Other underclassmen declaring last week were Vanderbilt center A.J. Olgilvy (15.3 ppg), Penn State guard Talor Battle (18.5 ppg) and Florida forward Alex Tus (11.8 ppg). “It is difficult to envision Hodzic being drafted,” said Jerry Meyer, a columnist with Rivals.com and former Bisons player. “But it doesn’t hurt to test the waters as an underclassman and go through the draft process.” Since Hodzic did not hire an agent, he will have until May 8 to withdraw his name from the draft. By declaring for the NBA draft, Hodzic will have the oppurtunity to participate in w0rkouts with professional teams.  This will allow Hodzic to get a feel for what the NBA is like and get his name out. “It can be a valuable experience, and a player can learn a lot about his game competing against other top players in camps and workouts,” Meyer said. Hodzic’s decision was not one that was made hastily, there was a lot to be looked at...

Hagerty encourages students to follow dreams

Hagerty encourages students to follow dreams

Last Monday, April 5, Better Nashville anchor Kacy Hagerty joined Lipscomb’s Society of Professional Journalists for their meeting. Hagerty graduated from Lipscomb in 2007. After transferring from Tennessee Tech for her sophomore year, Hagerty was able to get an internship with Channel 4 through the help and encouragement of one of her professors, Dr. Jimmy McCollum. At Channel 4 during her internship, Hagerty would write for the news anchors and help out with whatever else was needed. She also told the SPJ students that she loves what she does, no matter the stress that may come with it. “I may not make millions, but I love what I do, and that is what matters most to me,” Hagerty said. After Hagerty graduated she applied for a job as a producer at WSMV. Because she had interned there and knew the staff, she got the job. She worked as an associate producer for the morning show; which meant that she would have to go in at around 11 at night. “It was definitely a big transition for me, going from hanging out with my friends until midnight to going into work,” Hagerty said. After a short stint of doing that, Hagerty was unfortunately let go because of budget cuts. However, soon after that she was offered the producer spot for WSMV’s midday show, Better Nashville. “As soon as I heard the news I thanked God,” Hagerty said. “It truly was an answered prayer.” Today Kacy is still working as the producer, but is also hosting the show. The regular anchor, Holly Thompson is on maternity leave. While the idea of...
