Fill your bellies with laughter Wednesday night as Lipscomb’s theatre department puts on their student-led improv show at 6:30 in the University Theatre. For those who don’t know what improv is, performer Nelson Tilley described it similar to the hit TV show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” The troupe calls themselves “Self Improvment.” The other student leaders are Casey Edwards and Austin Hunt, and they are joined by Tilley. Majority of the performers in the group are in the theatre department, but they do have a few performers who are not. “The show is free first off; who doesn’t love free stuff?” Tilley said about Wednesday’s performance. They do take donations at the door, and all the money goes to charities around the community. The show is full of clean humor, and Tilley said he welcomes all students, faculty and staff to come by and watch the performances as they put on a family-friendly show. “We’re just a student-led group trying to spread some happiness by making people laugh and just enjoy their days,” Tilley said. “Come with ideas and come be entertained.” For those who are unable to attend tonight’s performance, Tilley said they will be doing another show on Thursday, April...

The Lady Bisons softball team got the sweep over ETSU this past weekend at Draper Diamond. Lipscomb run-ruled the Bucs in both games of the double header Saturday. The first game ended after five innings with a score of 9-0. Game two ended after five innings as well with a score of 10-1. The Lady Bisons combined for 18 hits, three home runs, two doubles and a triple in Saturday’s games. Senior infielder Kristen Sturdivant, senior catcher Rena’ Cothron and junior outfielder Brianne Welch all got to trot around the bases. “We hit extremely well in the beginning of the season, and it’s not like we’re hitting bad now, but to get so many hits this weekend is great for the team,” Welch said. “I expect our hits to keep coming the rest of the season.” Part three of the series on Sunday proved to be a closer game. ETSU got one across in the top of the first, but the Lady Bisons answered in the bottom half. Sophomore outfielder/infielder Brittany Elmore led off with a double, then scored on an ETSU error to tie the game 1-1. In the fifth inning, Elmore and junior infielder Paige Neely both reached on hit by pitches. Senior infielder Kelsey Cartwright blasted a three-run home run, which ended up being the difference in the game. The Bucs scored one more run in the sixth. The Lady Bisons finished the sweep 4-2. Singer/songwriter John Mark McMillan kicked off his Are We All Animals tour in Orlando during the end of March and made his way to Collins Alumni Auditorium Tuesday evening. The tour is promoting his fourth album, Borderland. McMillan also joined the Gathering Tuesday morning, playing a selection of acoustic songs with some of his band members. The second annual SGA debates were held in Shamblin Theatre Monday night with SGA and Lumination Network once again co-sponsoring the event. The centerpiece of the evening was the debate between presidential candidates Taylor Cao and Drew Watson. The candidates expressed their opinions on a number of oft-discussed topics on Lipscomb’s campus such as academics, students dealing with the various events held on campus, Lipscomb’s alcohol policy and the school’s parking issues. Watson, the incumbent SGA vice president, touched on his previous experience with SGA, as well what he hopes to implement if elected president. “I think that experience is something that I have, and that is very valuable, especially for the president position,” Watson said. “I think that leading an organization requires you to be knowledgeable about it, be knowledgeable about its functions and about its responsibilities. “I’ve learned a lot this year as vice president, so I definitely think I would be able to hit the ground running this summer.” Watson says he hopes to use the role to be a servant for the Lipscomb community. “I think that the president role should be a means of service, and I believe that I will do a great job serving the student body,” Watson said. “I’m not doing this for the title. I’m not doing this because it will look good on a resume. The Lipscomb Bisons completed a three game sweep of the East Tennessee State Buccaneers over the weekend. In game one the Bisons’ bats came alive pounding out sixteen hits. “When the hits start to spread from hitter to hitter, one guy feeds off the other. Good things happen,” head coach Jeff Forehand said. The offensive attack for the Bisons was lead by a 5-for-5 night at the plate by junior left fielder Josh Lee and a 3-for-4 game by junior center fielder Jonathan Allison. Allison hit a home run over the left field wall to give the Bisons an early 1-0 and later recorded a base-clearing triple that brought home two more runs. Allison finished the game with three RBI’s. ETSU did not go down easy. They responded to the 5-0 lead by adding two runs of their own to trim the margin to three. In the 7th inning ETSU closed the gap even more by adding five more runs, but the Bisons were able to hang on for the 9-7 win. In game two of the series, ETSU ran into a pitcher on a mission. Hunter Brothers pitched his first career complete game shut out. “When you get that performance that is all you need. He dominated from start to finish,” Forehand said. Junior shortstop Grant Massey lead the way offensively with a 4-for-4 day. Men’s soccer split two games Saturday after playing the University of Kentucky and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In the earlier match against Kentucky, the Bisons fell short, but in the game against UAB the Bisons came away with a 4-2 victory. Sophomore fielder,Reece Holcombe, talked about the different style of play Kentucky used. “Kentucky likes to pass the ball more, they have European players so they like to pass the ball around,” Holcombe said. After a tough loss to the SEC team, the Bisons kept up their energy to get the win over UAB. “UAB is a more physical team, they are a historically bigger team and they like to be more direct,” Holcombe said, “It’s a school first, beating UAB. I think it’s a nice step in the direction that we are going. We’re getting better every year.” Sophomore midfielder, Josue Chavez, says the way they played against UAB made a difference in the outcome. “Both games were decent, Kentucky was harder to score against, but UAB, we were passing the ball better and giving ourselves more chances to score,” Chavez said. Even though the Bisons battled UAB later on in the day, Chavez spoke about how the overall energy of their game was elevated. “Our energy overall against UAB was better than Kentucky, when we were down we used our energy to pick us back up and come back and get the four goals,” Chavez said.
