The Lady Bisons may have won the match, but they did not seem to be in complete sync throughout all three close sets. “I was a little disappointed,” said Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal. “I wanted us to give a little bit more.” The third set was the closest with the Mercer Bears coming within two before the Lady Bisons won the set 25-22. Tonight’s game was the first of only 10 conference games this season. The format this year is much different than years past. The Atlantic Sun schedule will look a little different this year as it will consist of a single round robin format, with each member playing each other once for the first time since 2007. In previous years teams played each other twice, once at home and once on the road. “Every one counts that much more,” Rosenthal said. “They’re pretty motivated and they know what’s at hand.” The Lady Bisons will have to fight their way through a tough conference to defend their title as Atlantic Sun conference champions. “To [the team] it’s about winning a championship,” Rosenthal said. The Lady Bisons won set one 25-16, set two 25-20 and set three 25-22. It was the A-Sun opener for both teams. The Lady Bisons are 12-5, 1-0 in the conference. Mercer is 6-13, 0-1 in the A-Sun. The Lady Bisons will face Kennesaw St. tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Allen...

The Bisons play hosts to Florida Gulf Coast this Friday at 7 p.m. The Lady Bisons’ soccer team was held scoreless in both of their games this weekend, losing 2-0 to ETSU on Friday and 1-0 to USC Upstate on Sunday. For most Lipscomb students, playing Ultimate Frisbee is only a hobby. But for a small group of students it is a full-blown sport. Jordan Bates, a Senior marketing major from Nashville, got the idea to start the Ultimate team in 2009 after watching some other people play. “I just saw a lot of people playing Ultimate in intramurals, and I thought that a lot of people had the potential to be really good,” Bates said. “We’ve grown and gotten a lot better since that point.” After the idea of the team came together, the next step was actually to turn that idea into action. The suggestion of an Ultimate Frisbee team was presented to SGA in order to get the appropriate funds for jerseys and tournament entry fees. “I think it was good exposure for the school, and it gets more people involved with extra curricular activities on campus,” Bates said. “They have been kind enough thus far to give us really good funding to enter tournaments.” The Ultimate circuit is not defined in conferences like the rest of the sports at Lipscomb. Instead, the region divisions are called “sections.” Lipscomb is in the Alabama section along with teams like Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and several other large schools. “It’s a pretty big deal in college,” Bates said. “Most schools have a team, if not two.” Don’t think that just because Lipscomb is competing against larger schools that they cannot contend. Last season the Bisons came in seventh out of 20 teams in their sectional tournament. “It feels great knowing that we are lining up with big SEC...
