The Lipscomb community is mourning after chemistry professor Dr. Ben Hutchinson passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Hutchinson was the former dean of the College of Natural & Applied Sciences until 2009, when it was merged with the College of Arts & Sciences.
Hutchinson is noted for some of Lipscomb’s most innovative science programs for K-12 students, such as the BEST program and CSI Academy.
He also established a science course for Lipscomb’s non-science majors that combines service learning and hands-on experience.
Hutchinson has been at Lipscomb since 2004, along with his wife, Nancy Hutchinson, former adjunct professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism.
Hutchinson is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughter Amy and son-in-law Steven McBride and three grandchildren, Bennett, Elizabeth and John Carter.
The memorial service will be on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Otter Creek Church of Christ.
