Scott Sanderson and his team will open up the season tonight with an exhibition game against the Freed Hardman Lions in Allen Arena. You can follow all of the action here with our live blog. “We want to learn what our guys can and can’t do in a game setting,” Sanderson said. “I know what they can and can’t do in practice. I want to see what they can do with people in the stands.” Expected starters for the Bisons are four familiar faces in Justin Glenn, Jordan Burgason, Jacob Arnett and Robert Boyd. The fifth start is yet to be known, but all signs are pointing to a freshman getting the nod tonight. Sanderson stresses he will be watching all of his players, but he will be taking a long look at the play of forward Malcolm Smith and power forward Marvin Williams, both freshmen. “The two news guys that I really want to see what they can do with people in the stands are probably Marvin Williams and Malcolm Smith,” Sanderson said. “I want to see in a game setting if they can think and play the game the way we have practiced.” The two teams have not met since Nov. 5, 2009. Sweep? Yes, Lipscomb will take one. It’s not often that Lipscomb and Belmont play one another three times in four days, but in 2011, it happened. Lipscomb came out on top each time, too. In volleyball, the Lady Bisons continued their conference winning streak, beating Belmont in five sets. The Lady Bisons won this edition of the “Battle of the Boulevard”, but it was a come-from-behind effort. Belmont won the first set 25-20 and the Lady Bisons evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 second set. Belmont bounced back to win set three 25-20. But the Lady Bisons came back in a big way in set four with a 25-13 decision. In set five the Lady Bisons held a 10-5 lead but had to hold on at the end for a 15-13 decision. Middle blocker Katie Rose lead the team in kills with 20 and tied for the team lead in digs with 19. Stephanie Rex also had 19 digs. The Lady Bisons are now 13-6 overall and 7-0 in the Atlantic Sun. Friday night, the women’s soccer team hosted Belmont for Part II of the “Battle of the Boulevard.” With the 2-1 victory, it marked the first time that the Lady Bisons had ever beaten the other team on the boulevard. The game-winning goal came from the head of Katie Wood off of a corner kick from Daniel Bethke. The win will prove to be a gigantic one looking back on the season. This could be the start of something good the Coach Ireland’s team going in to the end of conference play. The Lady Bisons...

It’s not every day you get to talk to a guy who has acted alongside such major Hollywood talents as Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Chris Pratt. It’s also not every day that this person is a former Lipscomb baseball player. Moneyball actor Casey Bond came back to the place where he spent his senior year of college this week to talk about his role as Chad Bradford in the book-turned-movie blockbuster. Casey Bond, former Lipscomb center fielder, recently acted in the new film Moneyball (based on the book by Michael Lewis). In the film, Bond’s character is a relief pitcher who played for the Oakland A’s during the 2002 season where the film gets its focus. Bond said he always had dreams of being a baseball player. Ever since childhood, baseball has been his passion. He played college ball at Birmingham-Southern in Alabama for three years until the school dropped the division one program. Lipscomb coach Jeff Forehand arrived at the same time as Bond and offered him a position on the Lipscomb team as a captain and a center fielder. “I figured this was a great place to go for my senior year.” Bond remembers. In 2007, Bond was drafted into the major leagues with the San Francisco Giants. During the off-seasons, Bond would return to Nashville to take acting classes with The Actor’s School in Cool Springs and finish up school. After his time in the Major Leagues, Bond decided to venture into the world of Hollywood acting. “I loved movies, and I just decided it was something I wanted to do,” he...

Lipscomb’s athletic director, Phillip Hutcheson, announced this morning on 102.5 The Game that all of Lipscomb’s basketball games will be broadcasted this year on the station. “We’ve been looking for a partner for a while now,” Hutcheson said. “Two-thirds of Lipscomb alumni live within this listening area.” Formerly known as 1025 The Party, The Game is now the flagship station for the Nashville Predators and ESPN radio. “Ten of our thirteen guys are from the listening area,” Hutcheson said. “We’re thrilled to be on the air.” Long time play-by-play man Jonathon Seamon will be calling the games, just like always. He’ll have a new color guy, though, since his son, Benjamin, just graduated. Lipscomb is partnering the Jackson Family of companies that will be the presenting sponsor. We’ll have more, later....
