In the final round of elections held for the upcoming school year, a new class of senators at-large has been selected, and two students have been given the prestigious Miss Lipscomb and Bachelor of Ugliness titles. For the senators at-large, Hannah Passamonte, Kimberly Keen, Julia Allen, Lauren King, Ezra Fritz, Margaret Rox, Caroline Hensley and Ben Ashley have been elected into those roles. King was also selected to be Miss Lipscomb. Matt Hogan was chosen to be the Bachelor of Ugliness. This follows last week’s election results, which saw Drew Watson elected as the SGA president and Seth Carey voted to the VP role. Seth Carey and Jamie Keiser have been elected to the vice president and secretary roles for the 2014-2015 school year respectively in SGA’s runoff elections held Thursday.Carey said he is happy his hard work has paid off. “It feels great,” Carey said. For his first actions in-office, Carey said he looks to continue the work of the incumbent officers, zeroing in on an initiative to place water stations on campus. “The first thing I’d want to look to do is to see what the executives had in place from last year and just to see, kind of, what they want to continue and what they kind of hit a dead end on,” Carey said. “A big thing that we’ve been working on is water stations across campus, so that’s the first thing we definitely want to take a look at just to see if that’s still possible.” Wednesday, Drew Watson was voted SGA president, and Melissa Parrish was voted as treasurer. Rising senior Drew Watson has been elected SGA President for 2014-15 school year. Watson, a rising senior, said he is really excited about his new position and is ready to serve the student body. “I knew it was going to be a close race and I’ve just had a lot of fun campaigning,” Watson said. “It’s been kind of stressful, but it’s been a lot of fun. “I am really excited to start this summer on some of the things that I talked about in the debate, specifically with the summer internships.” A runoff election will be held Thursday, April 10, for the vice president and secretary positions. Julia Allen and Seth Carey are the VP runoff candidates, while Jamie Keiser and Margaret Rox are the Secretary runoff candidates. Melissa Parrish was elected as treasurer. Elections will be in the Bennett Campus Center from 12-3 p.m. Below are the list of elected senators, from SGA’s email sent to the student body. One thing is clear after Monday night’s presidential debate, which was also the first ever live production from the Mullican TV Studio: Jackson Sprayberry has set very high standards for both candidates. This year’s presidential candidates are current SGA vice president Daniel Wakefield, a rising senior and Biology/Pre-Med major from Columbia, Tenn., as well as current SGA secretary Kirk Averitt, a rising Senior and Music Education major from Decatur, Ala. Wakefield has been part of SGA for three years, working two as a senator and one as vice president. During this time he has been able to learn more in-depth leadership skills. He has also had the opportunity to speak with people of influence and to have “conversations of weight” which encourage him to pursue active roles in SGA. “There’s an element of pride and satisfaction in working with the administration to make changes happen,” Wakefield said. “There are a lot of things I’ve been able to accomplish in SGA.” Averitt has been a part of SGA for two years, one year as a senator and one as secretary. He has enjoyed seeing the progress made over the past year, particularly in events such as Paint the Herd and in policy changes such as more lenient open dorms hours. “[Lipscomb] is a great school to be a student at and this is a great city to be a student in,” Averitt said. “We have a lot of outlets here.” Wakefield’s approach to this position is centered on networking. “[Sprayberry] has vision, focus and a unique ability to get people fired up,” Wakefield said. “I want to continue that.” Wakefield...
