NASHVILLE, TENN – On Friday, Mar. 2, the National Weather Service, along with the local news stations, warned the mid-state of the potential for severe weather. The meteorologists’ predictions were nearly spot on as the storms produced several tornado warnings as well as numerous severe thunderstorm warnings. Many students and faculty were advised to seek shelter on on campus, waiting out the storms in basements, closets, interior hallways and the backs of parking garages. Once the threatening storms had passed and the university had given the all-clear, those same students and faculty documented what the storm left behind. The following is a slideshow compromised of TwitPics, Instagrams and Facebook photos that those folks posted throughout the afternoon and evening. Mat Kearney is set to headlinethe 2012 Spring concert at Lipscomb in Alumni Auditorium. Up and coming musician Kiernan McMullan will open at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Mar. 2nd. Only Lipscomb students are permitted to attend the show and will be asked show their student I.D. upon entry. Kearney is a singer/songwriter based out of Nashville. He has had four songs in the top 20 thus far, and has toured with the likes of John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and the The Fray. Kearney also headlined the 2007 “You ‘Oughta Know” tour sponsored by VH1. Kearney’s latest album, Young Love, got up to No. 4 on the US Billboard charts and No. 1 on the Christian music charts. Whether you’ve been at Lipscomb for 4 years or 4 weeks, it’s clear that development is playing a huge role in the future of our campus. We’ve already seen a lot of changes in the last few months, what changes can we expect in the months ahead? Please upgrade your browser Tom Wood, Director of Campus Enhancement filled Lumination in on many of the current construction projects. “The north of the [Hughes] building which is currently under construction is our new nursing building, about a 25,000 square foot [facility],” Wood said. It’ll be state of the art for our nursing students. On the south side of Hughes, we will have in a short time frame a “U” shaped complex. The pharmacy research building will go on that south side of Hughes.” “In the future, there will be two more [health science] buildings. One will be in from of the nursing building and the other will be in front of the pharmacy research building.” There are two pieces of land that the university will have to buy, but Wood said that eventually with their purchase and completion of the addition health science buildings, the area will form a five building health science quad on the north side of campus. Also, students and faculty may be excited to hear that there will be some temporary parking that will be created in the coming months with the construction. “Also, part of this program is a temporary lot which will be behind the Village, which will accommodate about 50 additional cars,” Wood said. “So out of this project here in the next few...

In the last installment of the series we discussed Belmont’s winning streak that began in 1967. Today, we dive into the game that ended that streak. It was 1972 and the Rebels had dominated the Bisons for the last four years. Lipscomb then tied the game with a jump shot and played tight defense on the way back down the floor. Lipscomb held on for the win and a streak their own.Lipscomb, then lead by coach Mike Clark, led by as many as 14 points in the game and led by 11 at halftime. The Bisons had the lead for 36 straight minutes after Belmont opened the scoring.But finally, on January 13, 1972, the Bison played a back and forth game versus the Rebels, but came out on top at the end.
