The student body has spoken and the Student Government Association’s new president and vice president said they are ready to deliver. Jordan Beale, a junior biochemistry major from Benton, Kentucky, was recently voted the new president of SGA after a close race with junior Julia Allen. “I was confident in my platform, but my competition was so good and the race was so close that it was such a toss up,” Beale said. “It’s really neat to look forward to something so big and so cool — I see so much potential and believe it’s going to be a great year.” As president, Beale will be in charge of calling and planning meetings along with taking charge of any proposals. She already has several plans for what she wants to personally accomplish next year. One of her main goals is improve the academic advising system. “I would love to see each student be designated two advisors — one from their department and one from the Career Development Center who’s just really focused on seeing you succeed as a student,” Beale said. Beale will be working closely on accomplishing these goals with vice president Hannah Passamonte, a junior social entrepreneurship and international business major from Maui, Hawaii. Both leaders already have one goal in mind to work on together – a tuition lock-in. Passamonte’s other plans include combating food waste in the cafeteria and even trying to improve parking. Spring break happenings are in full swing and Lipscomb students are everywhere from on campus to foreign countries including El Salvador and Jamaica. Students have been planning for their spring break mission trips since the fall semester. The women’s soccer team is heading back to El Salvador for the second time while other mission trips include Saba, Guatemala and Honduras. Junior Karli Crosby from the women’s soccer team is one of four from the original group that went last year. Crosby is excited and feels like it will be a different experience from last year. “I can’t wait to experience the trip that changed my life last year with a new group of my teammates,” Crosby said. “God is going to do great things with this group of girls, and I can’t wait to continue the work we started last year.” Sophomore Lauren Poe is also going on the second mission trip of her life with the Jamaica team. The team will mostly be doing construction of houses and visiting schools and infirmaries. “I’m most looking forward to being able to serve the people there and get closer with my [mission] team,” Poe said. “I’m also an education major, so I’m looking forward to going into the schools there and being with the children.” Not everyone will be on mission trips this break though. Senior golfer MacKenzy Carter is leaving from her golf trip in Hawaii to head to the Bahamas to begin her final spring break. “I am most looking forward to relaxing without golf or classes flooding my mind,” Carter said. “I love being outside, so I...

The Lady Bisons golf team is taking its spring break getaway a week earlier than most students. The group is taking its third trip to Hawaii where they will play in the University of Hawaii’s Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational this week. “We [will] play The Klipper Course on the Kaneohe Marine Base on the island of Oahu,” said head coach Buddy Harston. The invitational will feature teams from the SEC, PAC 10, Big 10 and the Big 12. The team is looking forward to the nice weather Hawaii will provide. “Playing there with green grass and blue skies is going to be wonderful,” said sophomore Miriam Parker. While on the trip, Parker said she will focus on her time in the tournament while also enjoying the beauty of Hawaii. Senior MacKenzy Carter is looking forward to getting back to the tropical course. “We came last year and had so much fun, so getting to come back for my senior year is just icing on the cake,” Carter said. The Lady Bisons spent much of their offseason indoors due to the harsh winter. In their first spring outing, they placed fourth at the Time Warner Racer Classic hosted by Murray State. Parker was the top finisher for the Lady Bisons at the Time Warner Racer Classic. She finished at tenth overall with a score of 154 total. While many students took a break during the week, the athletic teams were very busy. During spring break week, the nationally ranked Lady Bison softball team traveled to Hawaii for the Spring Fling in Honolulu. The Lady Bisons opened up tournament play with a bang, defeating California by a score of 1-0. In that game, sophomore pitcher Whitney Kiihnl pitched seven scoreless innings for the win. Mollie Mitchell drove in Kellie Sirus to give the Lady Bison’s their lone run for the game. California was ranked twelfth in the nation. After defeating California, the Lady Bisons lost four straight, losing two apiece to California and Hawaii. The Lady Bisons record as of now stands at 20-7. The team returns to play on Friday, March 26, at Draper Diamond for a double header against ETSU. Game times are 4 and 6 p.m. The tennis teams were also in action over the break. The men’s team went 1-2 over the break defeating Florida Gulf Coast 4-3 and losing to Stetson and Georgia State. Winners for Lipscomb against FGCU were Daniel Hangstefer, Colby Shaw, and Tanner Brown in singles. In doubles, Chad Perron and Tanner Brown along with Colby Shaw and Mario Hernandez brought home two wins for the Bisons. Their record is now 4-7 on the year. The Bisons return home on Tuesday to face Austin Peay University. Matches begin at 2:30 p.m. On the women’s side, the ladies struggled going 0-4 against North Florida, Jacksonville, Florida A&M and FGCU. The Lady Bisons’ record now stands at 4-12.
