Tie score leads to stomp battle, lions come out victorious

Kappa Iota Theta hosted the inaugural Stomp Fest at Lipscomb University last night as a fundraiser for Youth Encouragement Services (YES). Several social clubs participated, along with some girls from the YES program.  Jim Chandler, from Woody and Jim in the morning on 107.5 the river, hosted the show, and four guest judges from local sororities and fraternities scored the performances. Kappa Chi opened the show, performing with the kids from YES. Pi Delta was next, dressed as indians, and the Tau Phi cowboys performed after that. Delta Sigma was next, and their theme was “soldiers.” Kirk and the Krazy Kats performed during the intermission, with Katy Heinly guest-singing and Ethan Summers guest-rapping. Phi Sigma opened up the second act with their members “re-pledging.” Delta Omega followed and the last performance of the evening was Kappa Iota Theta. The judges’ scores were announced, and there was a tie between Delta Sigma and Kappa Iota Theta. After a stomp-off to determine the winner, Delta Sigma came away with the win. Sweet and creepy times haunt Lipscomb campus

Trunk or Treat Thursday evening will be just the beginning of what promises to be a spooky good time at Lipscomb this Halloween. SGA, Kappa Iota Theta and Residence Life are throwing the first of what is planned to be an annual trunk or treat event from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Allen Arena Circle. Groups from around campus – including representatives of Lumination Network – will sponsor vehicles that will pass out candy to students who visit their trunks. The event also will have food, a pumpkin patch and a couple of musical guests. “SGA is constantly focusing on establishing and maintaining a community here on campus,” said Leah Raich a junior SGA senator. “What better way to do that than by a campus-wide trunk or treat?” It’s not all goodies, though, as other parts of campus are involved in the Halloween festivities. For example, the spinning classes offered in the SAC this week have taken on a spooky feel. The studio has been “haunted,” with black lights, Halloween music and a graveyard scene. Halloween classics such as Goosebumps and Halloween will be the backdrop as students ride the bikes. On Sunday, all rides will be free as SeaMonsters 3D provides the setting. “Our spinning instructors are excited to see all the current as well as new spinners experience these haunted rides,” said Emily Harris, director of campus recreation. “You won’t want to miss this exciting opportunity. Call 615-966-5860 to reserve your bike.” Another nostalgic event is the airing of Hocus Pocus – a cherished Disney flick — in Fanning’s courtyard at 6 p.m. Sunday. This one ought...

Kappa Iota Theta, new name for multicultural growth

Kappa Iota Theta – formerly known as Lipscomb University Multicultural Association (LUMA) – is offering more opportunities to get involved in the Nashville community this semester as well as creating ideas which reflect its new motto, “connecting intercultural ties.” Kappa Iota Theta begins this semester with the goal of uniting a diverse student body.  Elizabeth Hayes, organization president, said its goal is to “educate students and the community about the different ethnicities here on campus.” The organization is most known for the International Square affair, which takes place during spring semester, which allows students to experience the customs and foods of other cultures. Kappa Iota Theta also hosted its One Mic Stand last semester in Shamblin Theater. “It is important for students to learn and enhance their cultural diversity by building relationships with people of another culture,” Hayes said. Any student interested in joining Kappa Iota Theta should contact Hayes at...
