The Lady Bisons added two more wins to their total on Friday, sweeping the Stetson Hatters in a double header. Lipscomb defeated Stetson 5-0 in game one and 1-0 in game two. Going into Friday night the Lady Bisons knew that the double header against Stetson would be a pivotal one. Leading the Atlantic Sun by three games, Lipscomb did not want second place Stetson to gain any ground whatsoever. The Lady Bisons did just that, shutting out the Hatters in both games. Whitney Kiihnl pitched a complete game one-hitter to improve her record to 23-2 on the season. This was also her ninth shutout of the season. Abby Keese, the leading hitter for the A-Sun, and Kellie Sirus, slugging percentage leader for the A-Sun, both homered for the Lady Bisons. Lauren Dortwegt and Christen Campbell each added two hits a piece for Lipscomb. Sirus, along with her home run, had 4 RBIs in game one. Game one’s box score can be viewed here. Game two of the evening would result in a shutout as well, this time though because of pitcher Christen Campbell. Shutting out Stetson, the Lady Bisons’ lone run would come courtesy of a solo home run from Courtney Billington. This was Billington’s fourth home run of the season. Game two’s box score can be viewed here. The two wins improved the Lipscomb’s record to 35-9 overall and 12-2 in the Atlantic Sun. The Lady Bisons will host Florida Gulf Coast Tomorrow at Draper Diamond at 12 and 2 p.m. Be sure to check back at Lumination Network for more game...

Bisons senior pitcher Josh Smith is no stranger to the spotlight, but he may have to share it on Friday night when the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles visit with their major-league pitching prospect Chris Sale. The two teams will open the weekend series Friday night at 6 p.m. at Ken Dugan Field. Both Smith and Sale are expected to take the mound in what should be a showdown between two future draft choices. Smith, a fifth-year senior from Margate, Fla., has set the tone this season in Lipscomb’s weekend series. The Bisons ace has tallied a 6-1 record while posting the Atlantic Sun’s fourth-best ERA of 2.98. Typically, when the Bisons right-handed pitcher takes the mound, he garners all of the attention. However, with the A-Sun’s top pitcher coming to town this weekend, fans should be in for quite a treat. Smith said he looked forward to the opportunity to pitch against Sale. “He is a definite first-round pick,” Smith said. “He is everything you want in a Friday-night guy. It is definitely going to be a fun day. Being from the same state as some of these guys, I actually played growing up against some of them. My sister goes to school there, so there is definitely a little something extra in this game.” Smith has thrown three consecutive complete-game victories for the Bisons over the last three Friday nights. During that span, he struck out 41 batters while giving up only 25 hits. On the year, Smith leads the A-Sun with 70 strikeouts. The Bisons veteran leader gives all of the credit to his teammates for the success...

After breaking out to a 3-0 lead early on at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, the Bisons lost the lead in the bottom of the second. Tyler Wislon and Brett Teschner each had two hits on the day for Lipscomb, leading the team. Wilson also had two RBIs and a stolen base. Wilson has 25 stolen bases on the year. Pitcher Matt Bowling got the decision last night in 4 innings of work. Bowling would give up seven hits and six runs in the losing effort. The box score can be viewed here. The Bisons are back home this weekend for their biggest Atlantic Sun challenge of the season when Florida Gulf Coast visits Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. Friday at 6 p.m. Lipscomb’s Josh Smith will face FGCU left-hander Chris Sale, one of the most scouted players in all of college baseball. Sale was the MVP of the Cape Cod summer league last year. Six out of the seven MVP’s have been selected in the top 15 in the following years draft. With Smith having a great year for Lipscomb, this should be one of the better games this year. Be sure to come out and support your Bisons. Game time Saturday is 1 p.m. Sunday’s game starts at noon. The Bisons are 4-5 in the conference. Florida Gulf Coast is in first place in the conference with a 21-10 record, 12-3 in the...

BENNETT CAMPUS CENTER (LN)- Swift action corrected the problems that led to the state health department giving a failing grade to Lipscomb’s food court after a March 24 inspection. The food court grade leaped from a 68 to an 87 after the re-inspection April 16. Only one of the failing marks involved food itself, and all of the problems have been addressed, according to university officials, who quickly responded after the failing grade was issued. “It is important to know that the majority of the issues were corrected the same day Sodexo received the score, and as of this week every other problem has been fixed,” said Jeff Wilson, associate dean of Campus Life. Click here for the inspection report. The state of Tennessee uses a 44-item inspection with a maximum score of 100. Thirteen items are considered to be the most important, and if they fail to meet standards, a follow-up inspection must be done to ensure everything has been corrected. “We were due for the inspection this past Tuesday, but as of today, April 8, the health inspector has not been back,” said Michael Sullivan, executive chef for Sodexo Dining Services at Lipscomb. “The last time we spoke to the health inspector, she said she was not real worried about the score and believes it will receive a much better grade this time. Sodexo has been monitoring for corrections since the inspection and is ready for the next visit.” The food court had 19 issues that resulted in the failing grade. Of those, only one of them had to do with food; the rest were for things like paint peeling on the walls...
