Lipscomb sweeps Belmont during “Belmont Black Out Weekend”

Sweep? Yes, Lipscomb will take one. It’s not often that Lipscomb and Belmont play one another three times in four days, but in 2011, it happened. Lipscomb came out on top each time, too. In volleyball, the Lady Bisons continued their conference winning streak, beating Belmont in five sets. The Lady Bisons won this edition of the “Battle of the Boulevard”, but it was a come-from-behind effort. Belmont won the first set 25-20 and the Lady Bisons evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 second set. Belmont bounced back to win set three 25-20. But the Lady Bisons came back in a big way in set four with a 25-13 decision. In set five the Lady Bisons held a 10-5 lead but had to hold on at the end for a 15-13 decision. Middle blocker Katie Rose lead the team in kills with 20 and tied for the team lead in digs with 19. Stephanie Rex also had 19 digs. The Lady Bisons are now 13-6 overall and 7-0 in the Atlantic Sun. Friday night, the women’s soccer team hosted Belmont for Part II of the “Battle of the Boulevard.” With the 2-1 victory, it marked the first time that the Lady Bisons had ever beaten the other team on the boulevard.   The game-winning goal came from the head of Katie Wood off of a corner kick from Daniel Bethke. Court inside Allen Arena to be named after legendary coach Don Meyer

It was officially announced today that the court inside Allen Arena would be named after legendary coach Don Meyer. Coach Meyer, a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame and ESPY award winner, coached at Lipscomb from 1975-1999. He is also the winningest men’s coach in NCAA basketball history. Please upgrade your browser Since his retirment from the game in 2010, Coach Meyer has been traveling doing coaching clinics, seminars and promoting his book, “How Lucky You Can Be,” written with ESPN analyst Buster Olney. Lady Bisons fall to Western Kentucky in straight sets

This evenings much anticipated match against Western Kentucky went down to a final call in the third set before the Lady Bisons lost 3-0.During the first set the Lady Bisons had trouble blocking Western Kentucky’s kills, and didn’t seem to have an answer for them otherwise. After falling behind early the Lady Bisons lost 14-25 in the first set. The score of the second set isn’t much different, but the Lady Bisons played with more enthusiasm, keeping the game close before losing 15-25. In the first two sets coach Brandon Rosenthal had Abby Fay, a red shirt senior, at libero; in the third set he moved freshman Megan Stout into libero in order to let Fay help current A-Sun player of the week, Katie Rose and senior Char Ursell on the frontline. The Lady Bisons went into the third set with clear heads that helped them get a 10-5 lead midway through the set. After Western Kentucky tied it up at 12-12 the Lady Bisons were unable to recover and lost the set 20-25 on a call where it was uncertain whether or not the ball was tipped out of bounds. Lady Bisons go 2-1 in 2011 Lipscomb Invitational

One thing is clear about the Lady Bisons volleyball team: they won’t go down without a fight. The Lady Bisons lost their last match in the inaugural Lipscomb Invitational to Arkansas State in four close sets Saturday afternoon. In the first set, the Lady Bisons couldn’t seem to find their rhythm, losing 15-25, and then fell just short in the second, losing 24-26. During the third set, the Lady Bisons used the energy from their home crowd to win 25-16. “I think they feed off of the energy, so it’s good to be at home,” said Lady Bisons Coach Brandon Rosenthal. The Lady Bisons were able to get ahead a little in the fourth set but fell short 23-25, losing the match 2-1. “The girls have been working hard,” said Rosenthal. “We’ve come up short just a little, but I think it’ll help tremendously.” The Lady Bisons will take on Western Kentucky this Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in Allen...
