Women’s soccer made history Sunday afternoon as they advanced for the first time in program history to the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The chips fell into the right places on Sunday just minutes before the Bisons took the field against USC Upstate. In order to advance, the team would have to win against Upstate–at the time ranked 10th, and Northern Kentucky–9th — would have to tie or beat ETSU–8th– on Sunday to be finished before the Bison’s game-time. Freshman Ellen Lundy says that even though the scores were in, the coaches did not tell the players until halftime that they now controlled their own fate. “They just said, ‘Hey, ETSU lost,’ . . . okay, now let’s focus on us,” Lundy said. At the half, the Bisons were tied 1-1 and finished the game with a steady lead of 4-1. This year’s team has been blowing out the record books both individually and as a team. Besides making the tournament, the team has also set the record for number of wins in a season with six. Assistant Coach Chris Klotz said that the team has worked so hard and has earned this berth. “These girls have battled all year long and it’s so well-deserved,” Klotz said. “I am overcome with emotion. I am just so pumped for these girls.” With Sunday being senior day, the team honored three seniors, Kelsey Reiman, Callie Cavanaugh and Stephanie Romero. Lundy added how much the seniors deserve this and how hard they have worked for three year to make it to this point. The Bisons will play Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Ga., on Saturday, Nov....

Before the semester becomes too overloaded with events and calendars gets completely booked, Lumination would like to offer a handy guide to all of the events coming up during the fall semester. September looks to bring a full slate of men’s and women’s soccer games. Pledge week also kicks off in September as Bid Night took place Sept. 12. Some of Lipscomb’s most anticipated events begin in October starting with the Tau Phi Cowboy show on Oct. 5, Paint the Herd on Oct. 30 and Haunted High Rise scaring students on Oct. 30. The women’s volleyball schedule kicks into high gear during October as well. Lipscomb’s annual Dodgeball tournament will start November off with a bang. The men’s basketball team will open up their season against Belmont with the Battle of the Boulevard against rival Belmont on Nov. 8, followed by the women’s Battle less than a week later on Nov. 14. Everything from sporting events across all sports to special Student Activities Board sponsored events, to usual favorites like Wednesday Night We Eat are taking place throughout the next few months, making Lipscomb’s campus a busy place. Men’s soccer swept, women’s soccer finished their home portion of the season and the volleyball team is still dominating the Atlantic Sun conference. Oh, and softball in October? It was all a part of this weekend in Lipscomb sports. The Lady Bisons softball team went 4-0 this weekend, beating Chipola twice, Milligan once and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville once. Junior Whitney Kiihnl pitched a complete game against Tennessee. Kiihnl allowed one walked batter in the first, but did not allow another base runner until the seventh-inning when a UT player reached on a bunt single. Freshman Haley Elliot homered for the Lady Bisons, giving them their only run against the Lady Vols. The Bison soccer team swept this weekend on their Florida road trip, beating Jacksonville and North Florida. Miguel DaSilva and Garrett McLaughlin,scored two goals each on the weekend. Tyler Burkhardt, Garret McLaughlin, and Andrew Chamberlain also scored for the Bisons. Lipsomb’s record is now even at 2-2-0 in the Atlantic Sun and 6-6-0 overall. The Lady Bisons Soccer team closed out the home portion of the season this weekend. But the team was also handed two losses courtesy of Jacksonville and North Florida. Danielle Bethke scored the long goal for the Lipscomb on the weekend. The Lady Bisons played Jacksonville tough on Sunday, but all three goals came from set pieces. Two came from a corner kick, the other from a penalty kick. Volleyball improved to 15-5 and 4-0 in the Atlantic Sun this weekend. The Lady Bisons defeated ETSU and USC Upstate this weekend. Lipscomb beat Belmont in something other than basketball or soccer this weekend, and Lipscomb’s other sports teams didn’t disappoint either.The Lipscomb Ultimate team started off the weekend in winning fashion, beating Belmont in the first ever event held on the new intramural fields on campus. According to SGA’s twitter feed, there were over 200 students that attended the game. Men’s soccer lost to a very talented Xavier team 1-0 on Friday night, but bounced back and won 2-0 Sunday against Bowling Green State. Garret Pettis and Miguel DaSilva both scored goals for the Bisons. Nick Bibb, Garrett McLaughlin and Chase Nieri were awarded with assists. The Bisons play hosts to Florida Gulf Coast this Friday at 7 p.m. The Lady Bisons’ soccer team was held scoreless in both of their games this weekend, losing 2-0 to ETSU on Friday and 1-0 to USC Upstate on Sunday. Lipscomb next game will be at home this Saturday at 7 p.m. versus Campbell. The volleyball team defeated Florida Gulf Coast 3-0 Sunday to improve to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic Sun. Scores were 25-22, 25-22 and 25-13. This was the 20th home win in a row for the Lady Bisons. Volleyball hosts Mercer on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Kennesaw State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. It was also announced this week that the Inaugural Don Meyer Classic will not be held at Lipscomb, but at Belmont.
