Long-term career goals? To go back to school to get my masters in education, and one day specialize in Exceptional Education. 4. What is the most important thing you learned at Lipscomb? A capella singers perform at spring concert

For college students, free entertainment is always a plus, and Lipscomb University students need to look no further than Lipscomb’s own A Cappella Singers. The choral group performed their spring concert on April 12, 2010 in Willard Collins Alumni Auditorium. This was the group’s 16th program of the 2009-2010 concert season, and they will still have several more performances. The College of Arts and Sciences School of Fine Performing Arts Department of Music presented GLORIA! Monteverdi and Vivaldi. A section of Gloria was performed comprised of twelve songs sung by the A Cappella Singers conducted by Dr. Gary P. Wilson, accompanied by an orchestra coordinated by Carolyn Wann Bailey. Dr. Gary P. Wilson is a conductor, scholar, and teacher. His responsibilities as Director of Choral Activities include conducting the A Cappella Singers, overseeing the choral/vocal program, and directing the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. He teaches choral conducting methods, voice, and music theory. The A Cappella Singers are a premiere choral ensemble at Lipscomb University. The group is comprised of about 75 members and is open to those in various degree programs across campus. Each year the group performs a wide variety of genres and styles. Melanie Matthews, a sophomore from Gulf Breeze, Fla., and a vocal performance major sings soprano in the chorus. Matthews has been a part of the chorus for two years. “A Cappella singing is beautiful,” Matthews says. “When I came to hear the choir sing I immediately fell in love.” Matthews enjoys being a part of many major events on campus, such as the “Lighting of the Green”. The A Cappella Singers also perform in many...
