Both Lipscomb soccer teams ended their seasons in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament this weekend with a 5-0 loss to FGCU for the women and a 2-1 loss to North Florida for the men. The girls kept the score even until the 32nd minute of the match up when Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Tabby Tindell headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. The Eagles scored again before half leading 2-0. Florida Gulf Coast added more to the score board in the second half with goals from Paulina Speckmaier, Ally Kasun and Sarah Lowicki. Senior Alex Hickey, junior Niamh Rawlins and sophomore Jade Abarca were named to the A-Sun All-Tournament Team — the most members Lipscomb has ever placed on the All-Tournament Team. “I think it is very evident that this program has improved immensely,” Hickey said. The Lipscomb women’s soccer team was ranked 314th out of 331 NCAA teams when Hickey’s recruiting class came in. This year the Lady Bisons finished 95th in the NCAA RPI. “The teams work ethic and talent on the field has improved due to the players willingness to commit to the coaches ideal image for the team,” Hickey said. Lipscomb finished the season with a program-best 12 wins and the Lady Bisons’ first Atlantic Sun postseason win and Finals appearance. “We have tried very hard to put Lipscomb’s women’s soccer on the map and I am very proud of this team,” Hickey said. Florida Gulf Coast will be heading to the NCAA tournament and will find out their opponent and location on Monday, Nov. 9 at 4:30 p.m. The men’s soccer finals...

Lipscomb’s sports teams have hosted Halloween events for the community in past years. But this year, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee asked baseball head coach Jeff Forehand about his team tagging along for an event. Baseball will have an intrasquad scrimmage dressed in Halloween costumes, while student athletes will be putting on carnival games. The carnival is Thursday, Oct. 29 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with the women’s basketball exhibition game following. Entrance to the carnival is free. President of SAAC, Kayla Ostrom said that the committee is reaching out to children around the community. “It’s hard to tell at this point how many kids will show up, [but] either way there will be tons of candy to go around,” Ostrom said. Student athletes are encouraged to dress up in themed costumes and the winner will be determined by crowd voting during halftime at the women’s basketball game. SAAC will also start its canned food drive for Second Harvest, which is part of a competition between other Atlantic Sun schools. This competition will continue on until December. During an afternoon baseball practice Sept. 20, head coach Jeff Forehand was informed of his pending induction into the Trevecca Sports Hall of Fame in the spring of 2016. Trevecca’s sports information director Greg Ruff, previous athletic director Alan Smith and a few former players watched the Bisons practice from the audience before Ruff informed Forehand of this accomplishment. According to Forehand, he first thought assistant and Trevecca alumni coach Brad Coone was getting recognized. “It was just a cool honor and I was shocked,” Forehand said. The Hall of Fame recognizes athletes and coaches who have made exceptional contributions to the field of athletics. When considering coaches for induction, their career record, length of tenure, number of all-conference, all-region, all-american and scholar-athletes, as well as the impact they have made on the school is taken into consideration. “My coaching style has always been about the players – how they are as people on and off the field,” Forehand said. During his time coaching at Trevecca, Forehand won 211 baseball games, won the 2005 Trans-South Championship regular season, and had 10 NAIA All-American athletes. Forehand joined former Trojans basketball standout Mariska Reed Harris, volleyball player Katie Carter Douglas and softball player Brittiany Johnson Tate in the 2016 Hall of Fame Class. The induction will take place in the spring. Photo courtesy of Lipscomb...
