UNF’s Moore scores career-high 39 to down Bisons

If the Lipscomb men’s basketball team wants to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance, it may need to figure out a way to stop Dallas Moore. UNF’s senior star scored a career-high 39 points on Thursday night in Allen Arena to sweep the season series and end Lipscomb’s six-game win streak. Moore is now responsible for the Bisons last two losses. The Atlantic Sun scoring leader (23.5 PPG) dropped 36 in the Osprey’s win over Lipscomb in January. The Bisons (17-12, 9-3), fell to second-place in the conference standings with the loss, one game behind FGCU, who narrowly defeated NJIT 80-73. With only two games left in the regular season, Lipscomb now needs a loss by FGCU to share the conference title and have a chance at earning home-court advantage throughout the Atlantic Sun Tournament. Coach Casey Alexander was disappointed in his team’s performance in such a crucial game, especially on the defensive end, where North Florida shot a blistering 64.1% from the field. “Our common theme all night was trying to find a spark, and I think we came ready to play, but we didn’t have anything extra when we needed to have it,” Alexander said. “I think our guys were hoping something good would come their way instead of making something happen. “We’ve had enough games that we’ve won this year where we didn’t play well on offense like tonight, and that’s where the biggest disappointment is. We didn’t do anything on defense to cause them any worries at all.” The Bisons struggled with North Florida’s extended 2-3 zone, shooting 44.3% from the field and just 8-for-33...
Elise Mitchell urges students to embrace the journey of life at The Gathering

Elise Mitchell urges students to embrace the journey of life at The Gathering

One of Elise Mitchell’s favorite hobbies is riding her motorcycle, but not simply because of the thrill that it brings her. As she learned to ride, she realized that riding a motorcycle has many parallels with being successful in life, and she imparted some of those lessons to Lipscomb students in Allen Arena on Tuesday at The Gathering. Mitchell is a prominent figure in the world of entrepreneurship. She is also CEO of Mitchell Communications Group, an award-winning strategic communications firm. Her company has been one of the top 10 fastest-growing firms globally and named a two-time agency-of-the-year winner by PRWeek. Individually, she has received numerous awards, including being named PRWeek Agency Public Relations Professional of the Year and a Top 50 Power Player in PR. Mitchell recently published a book titled ‘Leading Through the Turn: How a Journey Mindset can help Leaders find Success and Significance.’ Her speech was short but rich with wisdom about how students can find success while thoroughly enjoying life’s adventures. Mitchell parallels a ride on a motorcycle and real life by saying that we must stay focused and simultaneously soak up everything that this world has to offer. “We always move towards a destination, but I believe everyone was meant to be an explorer,” Mitchell said. “We need to always be looking where we want to go, while enjoying the ride at the same time.” She urged students to eliminate anxiety about the unknown by trusting God and His plan. Mitchell recounted how fearful she was as a soon-to-be graduate when it came time for her to get a job, but God prompted her with Proverbs 3:6, which says, “In all your ways...
Bisons topple Stetson, earn sixth straight victory

Bisons topple Stetson, earn sixth straight victory

For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the Lipscomb men’s basketball team has won six straight games and is showing no signs of slowing down. The Bisons made quick work of Stetson on Thursday night, dominating from the opening tip and cruising to a 94-68 victory in Allen Arena. Lipscomb never trailed in the game, jumping out to a quick lead on several backdoor cuts for layups. The Bisons struggled from the 3-point line all night, going just 2-17, but used strong post play and aggressive driving to dismantle Stetson’s defense. “The first half was the best we’ve played all year,” Coach Casey Alexander said after the game. “That was evidenced by the fact that we were 2-12 from three and still had a 22 point lead, so I was very pleased with that.” Freshman guard Kenny Cooper sparked a 19-5 run at the end of the first half to extend the lead to 49-27. He got to the hoop with ease all night and finished with 14 points on 6-7 shooting. “Probably the best part of the night for me was seeing Kenny play with a different gear,” Alexander said. “Hopefully he can use this and take off from here.” The most dominating part of the night, however, came from the Lipscomb big-men. Forward Eli Pepper recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds and Center Rob Marberry scored 23 points on 10-13 shooting to lead the Bisons in scoring. Lipscomb manhandled Stetson on the boards 47-28. “Tonight they (the bigs) were particularly important because we weren’t scoring from the 3-point-line like we usually do,” Alexander...
Williams leads Lipscomb to foul-filled victory over Tennessee Tech

Williams leads Lipscomb to foul-filled victory over Tennessee Tech

Head Coach Casey Alexander’s biggest concern for his team on Thursday night was how they would respond after a heartbreaking loss two days ago. His concerns were put at ease. The Lipscomb men’s basketball team got off to a torrid start on its way to a 24-point halftime lead and cruised to a 104-85 win over Tennessee Tech in Allen Arena. The Bisons (3-6) lost a thriller to rival Belmont (64-62) on Tuesday after leading for most of the contest. “We came out ready to play, which was the big question coming off the Belmont game,” coach Alexander said. “We showed a lot of maturity by playing hard and establishing a lead, and the margin that we created was huge.” Lipscomb shot the lights out in the first half, going 61.5% from the field and 9-for-12 from three-point land as it built a 54-30 lead going into the break. Josh Williams led the way for the Bisons, scoring 18 points in the first half and connecting on four of his six three-pointers. The team’s offensive outburst was a stark contrast to the Belmont game, where Lipscomb shot an anemic 1-for-16 from downtown. “We’re gonna make our share of shots if we get good looks,” Alexander said. “I just felt like we executed really well, and that’s all I can ask for.” Williams, who missed most of last season with a torn ACL, finished with a season-high 20 points in the game. “He’s been such a great player here, and we need him to be a real force for us,” Alexander said. “He’s still trying to figure out what he can and can’t...
Bisons overwhelm Piedmont in 99-70 victory

Bisons overwhelm Piedmont in 99-70 victory

George Brammeier and Rob Marberry scored 15 points apiece to lead the Lipscomb men’s basketball team to a 99-70 drubbing of Piedmont on Tuesday in Allen Arena. The Bisons (2-1) successfully pounded the ball inside all night, outscoring the Lions (0-1) 46-20 in the paint. “Getting the ball inside is always a part of our game plan and it needs to be where we start,” coach Casey Alexander said after the win. “Rob and George had a lot of success tonight and anytime they’re scoring effectively that’s gonna be good for the rest of our offense.” Lipscomb used a dynamic attack offensively to gain the victory, with seven players scoring in double figures. Brammeier and Marberry were followed by Freshman guard Michael Buckland and Sophomore Garrison Mathews, who both scored 13 points. Guards Josh Williams and Aaron Korn scored 11 each for Lipscomb, while Freshman guard Kenny Cooper finished with 10 points. The Bisons also shared the ball well, assisting on 29 of their 38 field goals. “29 assists has to be close to a team record and seven guys in double-figures also, so I was really pleased with our offense,” Alexander said. “It shows that we have a lot of versatility and punch offensively.” Sophomore forward Eli Pepper made his first appearance of the season in the contest, playing limited minutes as he returned from an ankle injury. He finished with seven points on three-of-four shooting and corralled a team-leading 10 rebounds in just 14 minutes of action. “We didn’t really have a plan for him, and we knew he wasn’t going to play his normal role,” Alexander...
