Theta Psi added to Lipscomb’s Greek Life

Theta Psi is the latest addition to Lipscomb’s Greek Life. There are different opinions of what type of club Theta Psi is going to be, but they want to be the social club that seeks to “be the church.” The group became official during the last week of class of spring 2013, but during the fall, they started wearing the burgundy and yellow jersey that identifies them as Theta Psi. As a Freshman, Theta Psi’s President Zach Bowen wanted to be a part of a social club on campus but didn’t find the right one for him. Years later, as a junior, Bowen was inspired by the new girls social club Phi Nu and decided it was time to come up with a club for those who were not yet represented. Vice President Matt Samek says the process was slow and gradual, but after several meetings of talking about the purpose of the group, Theta Psi has gone from a group of six friends to a group of 25 brothers. “Being a part of this club means I can be a part of a body of believers that are striving to love people in all aspects of their life,” said club member Daniel Colemen. Mid-September came as one of the busiest times of the year for some Lipscomb students. Pledge week took over the schedule of those students who decided to get involved in Greek Life on campus. Theta Psi decided to partake in pledge week, even when they were not accepting new members. They chose to experience this week to come up with ideas for next semester’s pledge...

Lipscomb community steps up to help Dr. Jim Thomas and family after house fire

A typical morning in the office turned to be one of the most tragic days of Dr. Jim Thomas’s life. Dr. Thomas, President Lowry’s executive assistant and a Professor in the communications department, received a call saying his house was on fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but at the moment, the assumption is that it was caused by a lamp cord in the living room. Two hours later, the rest of the house was in flames. In response, the Lipscomb community gathered to give their time and money to help rebuild a home and restore joy back into the lives of Dr. and Mrs.Thomas. In moments like this, it is always a blessing to count with a family that cares and provides like the Lipscomb family. Remember to keep Dr. Thomas’ family in your prayers as they recover from this misfortune. Video by Jael Teme and Michael...

Unspoken chapel series aims to enlighten attendees

Unspoken, the new series by Campus Ministry, seeks to bring to light hidden topics or thoughts women have that because of shame are usually never talked about. This three-week series will deal with topics that women often experience with a concentration in shame and the things that women are ashamed of. The past few weeks, almost all the women’s restrooms have been decorated with pictures saying things like, “You’re not good enough,” “You’ll never be like her” or “You’re failing.” These are some of the things that are usually left unspoken, and that are going to be brought to light during the three encounters. This series begins Monday, April 8 and continues on April 15 and 22. It will be held in Ezell chapel at 7:30 p.m. and each conference will give one chapel...
