A new class of alumni took the first step into the next phase of their lives this Saturday in Allen Arena. Over 200 students graduated, including doctoral students, masters students and undergraduate students. Lipscomb president Randy Lowry spoke at the ceremony, sharing his hopes for each graduate’s future. “It’s your job to out into the world and take the sense of confidence and take the sense of character that has been developed here, and literally go change the world,” said Lowry. Lowry also spoke about the community Lipscomb alumni are a part of. Even now that they have graduated, Lowry hopes they will be a part of future projects. “We want you to realize that you will always be a part of the Bison herd,” said Lowry. Students will pay $15 per day to stay on campus during break

Students who have to stay on campus over the winter break will pay a $15 fee per day to live in a dorm. Some international students have the option to buy a plane ticket home, or stay with friends or classmates. But international student junior Lorena Djuknic will not be traveling home for the holidays because of the high cost of a plane ticket. “As an international athlete, I’m really disappointed in this rule because it’s really sad when it comes to holidays, and you’re so far away from your friends and your family,” said Djuknic. Djuknic, along with international student sophomore Laura Kent, will be spending the break in a dorm due to the NCAA restrictions on athletes. “Paying $15 a day is kind of a slap in the face; I mean we can’t go home to be with our families over Christmas, and then we’re paying to be in a dorm room by ourselves,” said Kent. “Being international, I don’t have a car, and I don’t know a lot of people in the country that I could even stay with.” Dean of Student Development Josh Roberts said the fee would not be a financial burden to students who need a place to stay. “If students were in situations where they are international or domestic, to partner with roommates, friends, and classmates and spend the holidays with them would be very ideal,” said...

Lady Bisons fail to hang with powerhouse Lady Vols

The Lady Bisons lost 85-51 in a matchup with the Tennessee Lady Vols Sunday afternoon in Allen Arena. The Lady Vols came into the game ranked 14th in the nation after ending a two-game losing streak, a rarity for the perennial national championship contenders. Lipscomb hung close with Tennessee for the first ten minutes of game action. A three from senior Sara Bliss gave the Lady Bisons a 3-2 lead, their first and only, at the 17:21 mark. The deficit remained in the single digits until halfway through the first quarter thanks to feisty, spirited defense from Lipscomb and a number of missed shots for both teams. “I knew we were capable of it. You don’t know what to expect when playing a team of that caliber,” Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown said, “We knew if we could try to limit possessions and play physical and play good positioning, we’d be in a good position.” Once the Lady Vols found their groove late in the first half, the Lady Bisons struggled to hang with the size and strength of Tennessee The Lady Bisons came out strong in the second half, even outscoring Tennessee for the first ten minutes of the second. “We thought we played with a lot of energy in the first half. We just had to continue to be aggressive, and do the things we practiced. I thought they did a very good job of that,” Brown said. Junior Ashley Southern surpassed her per game averages of 15.7 points and 8 rebounds, both good enough for third place in the Atlantic Sun. She finished the game with...
