A new student-led group has made its way into the Lipscomb community, and it got the public’s attention with the painting of the rainbow bison. Painting the Bison is something all students are welcomed to take part in. It’s close to the middle of campus and something that draws people’s attention. The Bison turned many heads when it was painted in all rainbow and read “October 11th, 7p.m. @ Bell Tower.” The reason behind painting the bison rainbow, the students said, was to make a statement on campus and get other students’ attention. “We decided to paint the bison because it has been always a huge symbol of student expression,” sophomore Kat DeVore said. “We thought this was a way to get the word out and get people’s attention because this is something that needs to be talked about.” The students who painted the bison formed a group called “Represent the Rainbow”. The group was formed as a way to discuss gay rights and how to accept and love everyone. Sophomore Josh Yarbrough is the one leading this group. Yarbrough says this group is going to provide a safe place for people to come and discuss these issues. His plans for the group are to meet at “The Well” every Saturday night. “This is a place for people to come and share testimonies, questions and doubts. For the first time since 2011, the Battle of the Boulevard, volleyball edition, returned to Allen Arena. The Lady Bisons defeated the Lady Bruins in three sets Tuesday night. The closest that Belmont came to winning was in the third set, but Lipscomb finished it off winning 25-21. Senior outside hitter Lauren Ford finished off the night with 10 kills. Ford talked about what it means to rekindle the rivalry with Belmont. “The rivalry is huge. It’s awesome coming back on the court and playing again against them,” Ford said. “Some of the younger girls don’t necessarily have that same passion against Belmont, and so it’s fun to kind of teach them that this is how we do it, and this is the way we play against them every time no matter what.” The Lady Bisons took the first set 25-19 and the second 25-17. Junior Brittany Estes led the way for the quick three-and-out game with 13 kills. She was followed by Ford and senior Sophie Kellerman who had eight kills. Sophomore Kayla Ostrom led the team with 32 assists. Belmont is a non-conference opponent, but as far as conference opponents go, the Lady Bisons are undefeated. Prior to the Belmont matchup, they defeated Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson on the road. Lipscomb is now the no. 1 team in conference. Very few individuals can claim that they are an expert on a certain matter. Even fewer can say that they are enough of an expert that they were granted the opportunity to share their knowledge with the rest of the world on national television. California native and finance major Trevor Gormley had this opportunity during his sophomore year at Lipscomb. He was asked to do be part of a roundtable discussion about the performance of retail investments. Now that he is a junior, Gormley will be interview by CNBC again in the near future. Gormley’s interest was sparked when a chain of events occurred after his father lost his business. Gormley says that finance has a fast-paced environment that is exhilarating, a kind of mindset he says is needed for someone who would want to embark upon such a competitive field. “I would say it has changed my life, it has forced me to work harder than the person next to me to be the best inside and outside of the world of business.” Gormley said. His next appearance will be on the Closing Bell, a CNBC show that resolves around the topic of the New York Stock Exchange, with the topic of conversation being based on consumer sentiment. His analysis will go into the intrinsic value of Tesla (TSLA) and GoPro (GPRO). With many opportunities popping up, Gormley has made an effort to create short and long term goals. The Postgame brings you up-to-date on all of Lipscomb’s sporting events. Fall sports are in full swing, and the Bisons are finding success in October. WOMEN’S SOCCER The Lady Bisons soccer team is 3-1-1 in the month of October. Lipscomb tied with North Florida 0-0 after two overtimes. On Oct. 5, the Lady Bisons defeated Jacksonville 1-0, then traveled to Stetson to pick up a 4-2 victory on Oct. 10. Two days later, Florida Gulf Coast got the best of Lipscomb 2-1. However, the Lady Bisons bounced back getting a 4-0 shutout against USC Upstate. Junior Anna Lail has scored five goals in October, which has earned her two Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors. Freshman Elizabeth Ashwood recorded her first goal as a Lady Bison against USC Upstate. Lipscomb has clinched a spot in the A-Sun Championship tournament for only the second time in program history. The Lady Bisons will play their final regular season game Oct. 24 against Northern Kentucky at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The seniors will be honored as part of Senior Day. MEN’S SOCCER The men’s soccer team sits in third in the A-Sun with seven points. The Bisons posted a 1-0 win over North Florida on Oct. 18. Junior Reece Holcombe scored a goal in the 56th minute off a pass from redshirt junior Matt Kerridge. On Oct. 11, Lipscomb fell 3-1 to Stetson. Senior Luke Gearin scored the Bisons lone goal. A few parts of Lipscomb’s campus will be without water late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, per the university. From Tuesday evening at 11 p.m. to Wednesday morning at 6 a.m., the Fanning and Elam dormitories will be without water. This outage includes showers, toilets and sinks. Metro Water Services will be accessing an existing waterline, which will lead to the lack of water on various parts of campus. Crisman, Crisman Annex, McFarland and Ward will also be affected by the outage....

Two infamous gangs are squaring off on Collins Alumni Auditorium stage on Halloween weekend. No, these gangs are not real, but they are part of the iconic musical phenomenon known at West Side Story. The musical, inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, tells the story of two star-crossed lovers,Tony and Maria. The two meet at a dance and immediately fall in love, but they quickly realize they have to keep their relationship secret since they come from rivaling groups of people. The setting is the West Side of New York City. The two groups are gangs; the Sharks, a feisty group of Puerto Ricans that are friends of Maria, and the Jets, the tough group of New Yorkers that Tony aligns himself with. Mike Fernandez, the dean of the new College of Entertainment & the Arts, is directing the show. He said that West Side Story presents new opportunities for those involved. “We were really aching for a strong, gritty musical that had some great dance to it,” Fernandez said. “We certainly had done shows before that explored dance, but we really wanted something that would push us in terms of dance capability. We also felt like we wanted to push ourselves musically, and so how better to do that than with West Side Story?” Tyler Russell, a senior theatre major, will be playing the role of Tony. Russell said he is ecstatic that he gets to play such an iconic role.
