The Postgame brings you up-to-date on all of Lipscomb’s sporting events. Fall sports are in full swing, and the Bisons are finding success in October.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Lady Bisons soccer team is 3-1-1 in the month of October. Lipscomb tied with North Florida 0-0 after two overtimes. On Oct. 5, the Lady Bisons defeated Jacksonville 1-0, then traveled to Stetson to pick up a 4-2 victory on Oct. 10. Two days later, Florida Gulf Coast got the best of Lipscomb 2-1. However, the Lady Bisons bounced back getting a 4-0 shutout against USC Upstate. Junior Anna Lail has scored five goals in October, which has earned her two Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors. Freshman Elizabeth Ashwood recorded her first goal as a Lady Bison against USC Upstate. Lipscomb has clinched a spot in the A-Sun Championship tournament for only the second time in program history. The Lady Bisons will play their final regular season game Oct. 24 against Northern Kentucky at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The seniors will be honored as part of Senior Day.

MEN’S SOCCER

The men’s soccer team sits in third in the A-Sun with seven points. The Bisons posted a 1-0 win over North Florida on Oct. 18. Junior Reece Holcombe scored a goal in the 56th minute off a pass from redshirt junior Matt Kerridge. On Oct. 11, Lipscomb fell 3-1 to Stetson. Senior Luke Gearin scored the Bisons lone goal. The goal moved Gearin into a tie for third place on Lipscomb’s career goal rankings. Freshman goalie Nate Davis earned A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honor for the week of Oct. 20. Davis tallied his second career clean sheet in the win over North Florida. He ranks second in the A-Sun with a 1.28 goals against average and his .718 save percentage ranks third. The team has two October games left: Oct. 21 at Central Arkansas and Oct. 25 at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex hosting Longwood.

VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball team earned two wins on Oct. 17 and 18. Lipscomb defeated both Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson 3-1. The Lady Bisons are a perfect 7-0 in A-Sun conference play. Junior Brittany Estes posted a double-double in both matches. Senior Lauren Ford had 20 kills against Florida Gulf Coast and a match-high 21 kills against Stetson. After those performances, Ford received the A-Sun Player of the Week honor. The Lady Bisons will host rival Belmont Oct. 21 in Allen Arena.

MEN’S GOLF

The men’s golf team won the 2014 WKU Kenny Perry Invitational over Western Kentucky on Oct. 14. Lipscomb won by eight strokes. Freshman Dawson Armstrong claimed medalist honors finishing with a score of -4 and being the only player in the tournament to finish under par. Senior Caston Roberts rounded out six strokes behind Dawson Armstrong, earning him fifth place on the leaderboard. Sophomore Dowling Armstrong had the best round of the day on Tues. Oct. 14 with a -2. Lipscomb finished the 54 hole torunament with a +15, 879 score. Dawson Armstrong has been named the A-Sun Golfer of the Week two straight weeks.

WOMEN’S GOLF

The women’s golf team finished eighth in the 2014 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tues. Oct. 14. Freshman Samantha Griffith posted a +15, 158 score with a 25th place finish. Griffith has led he Lady Bisons in three straight tournaments. Senior Morgan Bucher finished in the top 30 with a +17, 160 score. Lipscomb will play in the Braun Intercollegiate hosted by Evansville on Oct. 27-28.

CROSS COUNTRY

At the Louisville Classic, junior Madi Talbert ran the fastest 5000-meter in Lipscomb history. She recorded a time of 17:19 and finished 13th overall out of 300 runners.The three teams ahead of Lipscomb rank in the top 30 in the nation. Lipscomb’s first group of female runners finished finished fourth. The second group of women finished first defeating IPFW.

The men competed at the Front Runner Invite in Chattanooga and placed third overall. Christian Freeman finished in seventh place with a time of 15:28.03. Derek Peterson finished in 14th place with a 16:49.49 time.

The teams will compete in the conference championships on Nov. 1 in Sanford, Florida.
