Here in Music City it’s said that guitars can be heard around every corner of every street. Well, now food is found on those same streets and around virtually every corner, thanks to the food truck movement. These rolling kitchens offer a different side of dining to the people of Nashville who want to vary from the fine dining of, say, the Gulch and the fast food of every street corner. Of course, barring major catastrophe, your typical restaurant never moves from the building it sits in. But food trucks travel all over the city of Nashville every day, offering their delectable dishes to everyone in all parts of the city. The trucks usually do not have a set schedule as to where they are going to be at any given point; however, to spread the word about locations and specials, they have turned to social media for help. Twitter is a tool food trucks use to tell people where they will be serving their steaming plates of grub. If there’s one location where you can be sure to find a majority of the food trucks all at once, it is at the Farmers’ Market in Sevier Park on 12th Avenue South every Tuesday evening. During that same day, most trucks also set up at Second Harvest Food Bank, 331 Great Circle Road in MetroCenter, near where the Titans practice. Many trucks offer international cuisine. If Latino food is your fave, for example, there’s The Latin Wagon, Yavo’s O.M.G. and Bangin’ Tacos. In the mood for something greasy? What college student can resist that. Why not try some hamburgers from Hoss’ Loaded Burgers...

Multiple news outlets are reporting that former Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs has died due to health complications. Apple’s Statement: “Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives,” the company said. “The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be at Apple.” Jobs stepped down from an executive role at Apple in August because he said that he could no longer fulfill his duties as the company’s CEO. He instead became chairman of the company. It is not often that a company so successful is controlled by one person. That person was Steve Jobs. Many of you are probably reading this on your iPhones, your iPads, your MacBooks or some other device that Steve Jobs had a hand in creating. He made a huge impact. That impact has been felt on Twitter over the last hour, and students from Lipscomb have chimed in on what they thought of Mr. Jobs and his passing. Alexander McMeen tweeted, “RIP Steve Jobs. You built an empire.” Roxanne Spielvogel tweeted, “I was going to do homework tonight. But now I will be mourning Steve Jobs death. You can call me iRox. #depressed #apple” Jameson Roper tweeted, “Rest in peace Steve Jobs. What a brilliant...

Brad McCoy, father of Daniel Colt McCoy (the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns), athletic director of Flippen Sports and published author of the book Home Field Advantage spoke to parents as a part of Lipscomb’s annual Family Weekend. Family Weekend is a popular time for many Lipscomb students to reunite with their parents and give their family an opportunity to visit the city and engage in fun-filled festivities for an entire weekend. McCoy was the guest speaker Friday night and spoke to parents about “the home field advantage” they can give to their children and the importance of being “intentional.” McCoy introduced the audience into the discussion by asking, “What does the word intentional mean in our lives? What is intentional in our lives, and how does that captivate us to do better?” Leaving the audience to contemplate, McCoy talked about personal anecdotes and real life experience as a father of three. In order to explain how to be more intentional, McCoy presented four cultural issues that prevent us from being the kind of people we want to be: First is our “lust for laziness.” Second is “the want to be popular instead of respected.” In reference to the meaning of this statement, McCoy referred to Rick Ashley’s tweet saying “I am tired of the approval addiction…Let God’s love push out the need to be applauded by the crowd.” Thirdly, “we have this culture that says we have no obligation to responsibility…because it is easy to quit things.” Fourth, is “our fear of failure.” McCoy referenced a tweet from well known Christian author Max Lucado, saying “Fear should not...

Fall is full swing as we enter the first week of October. This is the month when horror/thriller films are at their peak. While we don’t have any scary flicks to recommend today, here are two solid films for your enjoyment! X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (PG-13, 130 minutes-featuring James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) *BLU-RAY OPTION RECOMMENDED The film will be on Redbox this Friday (10/7). The X-Men franchise is back in full swing with this electrifying prequel. This film follows the beginning days of the X-Men, telling the stories of Charles Xavier, a young, gifted professor and Eric Lensherr, a revenge-driven survivor of the Holocaust. The two mutants are brought together when a power force threatens the fate of the world. Assembling the finest mutants they can find, Charles and Eric take on the menace in this past summer’s best blockbuster film (in my opinion). McAvoy and Fassbender truly knock their performances out of the park. This is an immensely fun, engaging, stylish superhero film that I fully recommend for your viewing pleasure. It’s one of my favorites of the year, and I hope it’s one of yours. BATTLE: LOS ANGELES (PG-13, 116 minutes-featuring Aaron Eckhart) *BLU-RAY OPTION RECOMMENDED Here’s another title that has been on Redbox for a while, but it’s still worth a rental. Battle: Los Angeles is a straight-forward alien invasion film told through the eyes of the soldiers combatting the enemy. While this film is nothing too deep or philosophical, it’s an action-filled ride that puts the viewer in the middle of the fight. I loved Eckhart’s no-nonsense Marine staff sergeant. He gives the film its...

12th Avenue South is not the only place mustaches will be today. Mark Slagle and Alex Cox are supporting their MANA Mustaches in their vintage 1970’s orange Winnebago complete with shag carpet and an original 8-track player. The Manabago, as they call it, is set up in the square to help support the mission and to raise awareness of MANA nutrition, an initiative helping defeat the ongoing epidemic of acute malnutrition in Africa. Simply put, MANA is a small nutritional supplement packet that after four to six weeks a formerly acutely malnourished child will not only be up to weight but will also have received the proper nutrition needed for healthy brain development. Today, during chapel, founder, Mark Moore will give more information about the necessity of MANA and how you can become involved. Then, go to the square and find out how you can become involved with the Manabago. Maybe you too will end up with a MANA mustache. Photo Credit: Whitney...
