The 3-0 win was a lot closer than Lipscomb wanted it to be on Tuesday night. The Lady Bisons fought their way out of a close third set to sweep the Tennessee State Tigers and improve to 5-2 overall. The Lady Bisons easily defeated the Tigers in the first two sets with 25-10 and 25-14. “Our transition game did a really nice job,” Lady Bison Head Coach, Brandon Rosenthal, said. “I thought for one and a half sets we did a really nice job of executing and eliminating chances for them to get extra points to the ball.” The third set for Lipscomb was all about teamwork as they found themselves tied with Tennessee State during the third set. The Lady Bison’s fought back after being down 8-1 early on in the set to win 25-21. “Our energy kind of let off,“ said Rosenthal. “I told them I wasn’t going to bail them out by calling time outs, that it really comes down to them. The girls did a great job of making points on their own. Senior leaders like Stefine “Jake” Pease, Meghan Hinemeyer and Alex Kelly kept the team focused during the last set. “It’s a Senior led team, I’m not too worried about it,” said Rosenthal. “If I know the team like I do I don’t think there will be any doubt tomorrow in practice there will be a great sense of urgency to pick the team back up.” The Lady Bisons will travel to South Carolina later this week for the Gamecock...

The Lady Bisons swept both Tulane and Pittsburgh this weekend at the Pitt Invitational. Their only loss was on Saturday morning when they were swept by Purdue. Kacey Greene and Alex Kelly were named to the All Tournament team for their weekend performance. From LipscombSports.com : Lipscomb Lady Bisons split matches in Pitt Invitational Lipscomb outside hitter Kaycee Green is on the top of her game this weekend and has made an impact on the Lady Bisons. In Friday afternoon’s 3-0 win against Tulane Green led the way with a match-high 12 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. “Kaycee has been willing to work hard offensively and defensively,” Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “When she is willing to work hard offensively and defensively she can be one of the top players in the conference. “When things slow down for her, and she doesn’t work as hard, she becomes an average player. We have been working hard since last year to get her to understand that.” Green was a member of the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team last season. “The game becomes very easy to her in some regards,” Rosenthal said. “At this level you have to work every day and for every point. I am real pleased with what she did in both the Purdue and Tulane matches.” Earlier in the day the Lady Bisons had opened with a 3-0 loss to Purdue. The Tulane win was the first match sweep of the season for the Lady Bisons, 3-2. Tulane fell to 0-4. “We have to be able to take some of the lessons we have learned and move...

Jon Ireland, coach of the Lady Bisons soccer team has a memorable last name. Especially after today’s game versus Jackson State. The luck of the Irish was on the Lipscomb’s side today when they shutout the Tigers of JSU. The first and only goal of the game came at the eight minute mark of the first half off the foot of a Jackson State player. Luckily, though, it went into the back of their own net. Sophomore Katie Wood lead the Lady Bisons in shots with four. Putting one of those four on goal. Jackson state only managed to get seven shots off. Erin Zerlo, the keeper for the Lady Bisons only had to make one save, though. In an interview with LipscombSports.com, Jon Ireland had this to say about the game. “We have Katie, Kelsey Reiman and Kameron Stilwell in the back,” Ireland said. “The back three have been playing very well for us. Martika Powe has been playing great in the middle. The last component defensively is for Erin to get more confidence. This was a big game for her. “We were very organized. That has been the thing about our team this year. This has been the best defensive unit we have had since I have been here.” Lipscomb will not play again until Friday against Arkansas State. That game will the first of four straight games on the...

Ninety minutes was not enough time to declare a winner tonight in the women’s soccer game at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The game was scoreless for the first 90 minutes as the offense seemed to be lacking for both teams. After no goals were tallied in the first overtime period the game went on to yet another 10 minutes of play. All 10 minutes would not be necessary however. A mere 22 seconds into the second overtime UT-Martin got on the board after a scramble in the 18-yard box. The goal was scored by Abi Sanvee, her first of the season. The Lady Bisons tallied 10 shots, five on goal. UT-Martin also had five shots on goal for a total of 18. Lipscomb, 1-2, plays host to Jackson State Sunday at 2...
