The Lady Bisons fought hard against the Skyhawks, but fell, losing 67-83 at the UT Martin Elam Center. The Lady Bisons shot well, 20-42, but just couldn’t seem to get into a rhythm during the game. The Skyhawk defense was tough and started pressing the second the Bisons got the ball. The game went back and forth at the beginning, with the Bisons gaining a lead over the Skyhawks with a second-quarter 11-2 run. But the Skyhawks quickly retook the lead 36-29. Lipscomb cut UT Martin’s lead to seven with five minutes to go, due to them shooting 71.4% in the fourth quarter. But the Skyhawks ended the game on a 15-6 run and walked away with a 83-67 win. Despite the loss, the Bisons shot 47.6% from the field overall, largely in part to the standout freshmen. The freshman trio of guards, Blythe Pearson, Jalyn Holcomb and Casey Collier, were responsible for almost 70% of the team’s points. Pearson dropped a career-high 20 points off the bench in her 24:51 minutes. Holcomb scored 16 points in her 38:31 minutes of playing time. Collier scored 9 points in her 34:29 minutes. However, even these standout performances were not enough to give the Bisons the win, due in part to the crowd of over 4,000 students from area schools that packed into the arena providing a unique energy that seemed to keep Martin fueled throughout the game. This crowd was in attendance because of UT Martin’s “Kids Day” game where schools allowed kids to attend the game instead of class. Lipscomb is closing out 2019 with a trip to Tennessee Tech on...

After a rocky first half, the Bisons turned things around in the second half — taking a solid win over the Trevecca Trojans 96-72. This is the team’s first home win since the home opener against Rhodes on November 5th. Last week after the Bisons’ loss, Coach Acuff said, “I promise you, we get to January, we’re gonna be a tough battle.” This win is just one step to that “tough-battle” team coming in January. Ahsan Asadullah was a star player in tonight’s game. With 21 points, a career-high 8 assists and 6 rebounds. Asadullah shot 11-15 from the field. KJ Johnson also scored 21 points, 17 of which were in the second half. Michael Buckland and Greg Jones each shot 15 points as well. The Bisons only shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, allowing the Trojans to gain a 46-44 lead going into the second half. The Bisons came back ready for battle and shot 68.8 percent from the field. This win improves the Bisons record to 4-6 on the year. Despite the rough start and a small crowd, due to finals and Christmas break, the Bisons still pulled out a win before they enter their longest stretch of the season without a game. After what is hopefully a confidence-boosting win, the Bisons will return to Allen Arena Dec. 17 against Tennessee Tech at 6:30...

The Bisons took another hard loss to the Bruins in the second installment of the Battle of the Boulevard this season. The final from the Curb Event Center was 80-75. “We’re sitting at 3 in 6 and that’s not where we wanna be,” Head Coach Lennie Acuff said. “But there’s probably not many people at our level playing the schedule we play, and so we just need to keep getting better.” The team won two road games over the last week and a half against Navy and Tennessee Tech, and they also hung in for the majority of the Xavier game, despite being without three of their starters. Michaell Buckland, Jake Wolfe and Greg Jones have sat the bench until tonight, due to injuries suffered in the first matchup against Belmont last month. “It helped getting a couple of guys back tonight that have been out for a couple of weeks,” Coach Acuff said. This, the 146th installment of the Battle of the Boulevard, was a Battle as always. The score stayed tight until the middle of the second half when the Bruins began to knock down shot after shot gaining a 13 point lead on the Bisons. Belmont’s freshman guard Adam Kunkel got on a hot streak shooting and got the Bruins score up to 71-58 on the Bisons with 2:42 left in the second half. “The thing I think he’s gotten better at is, he’s not a catch-and-shoot guy. He’s obviously a really good shooter, but he’s got game, he can put it down… he’s much more athletic than you think.” Coach Acuff said about Adam Kunkel....
