Every sports team needs a leader to look up to. For the Lipscomb Bisons volleyball team, Kaycee Green is that leader.

“I have the role of being a leader on my team especially being the only senior,” Green said. “I have the responsibility of being that person everyone can look at when we are down or that person that has to be the consistent one or need to be that go-to person to get a job done.”

Although it sometimes may be difficult, Green said she has embraced the role as the single leader.

“It’s hard being the only senior and having to be such a big leader and an example,” Green said, “but I have taken on that responsibility and loved every minute of it. Being the only senior and having to step up being a leader has really helped me grow a lot this year as a player and person.”

Stats prove how Green has grown as a player this year. She’s been named A-Sun Player of the Week, named to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team, ranks first in the A-Sun, and named TSWA Player of the Week, among other awards.

The native of Cookeville, Tenn., along with titles, has 393 kills with 272 of those kills taking place in conference games.

Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal has been with her the entire way, and Green thanks him for everything he’s done for her, admitting that she thinks she can be tough to coach.

“I know I’m not the easiest person to get along with or coach at times,” Green said, “and he has been there for me the whole way through, and I really appreciate that.”

Green can reminisce on all these accomplishments as a player, but she said her favorite memories will be times spent with her team.

“Over the past four years, I think my favorite memory is all the great times we have as a team just being together,” Green said. “It’s never a dull moment with my team, and I love every minute of it.”

Green offered some advice for her teammates and for those fresh faces who will join the team in the future.

“Just keep playing the LUV (Lipscomb University Volleyball) way and always keep a chip on your shoulder to work hard every day, to get better and make things happen.”

The Lady Bisons play their first A-Sun tournament game at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 in a semi-final match. Lipscomb’s volleyball team has won three straight A-Sun tournaments and claimed four of the last five A-Sun Championships.
