The Lipscomb women’s basketball team has officially released their 2013-2014 schedule, which includes a December trip up to Knoxville to take on the Lady Volunteers. Nine of the teams in Lipscomb’s schedule are post season teams from last year. “We have set up a challenging schedule for our team,” Brown told Lipscomb Athletics. “It will give us some experiences in great environments while preparing us for the Atlantic Sun season.” To start the year, Lipscomb’s Women’s basketball team is scheduled to play in two exhibition games against Freed-Hardeman (Oct. 28) and Fisk (Nov. 6). The Lady Bisons jump into the regular season against Morehead State on Nov. 10. This year’s installment of the Battle of the Boulevard is set for Nov. 14 at Allen Arena. The Lady Bisons will look to avenge their 70-54 home loss to Belmont from last year. The Lady Bisons are also set to play three SEC powerhouses this seasons. They play Kentucky in Lexington on Nov. 21. Less than a month later, the team returns to Athens, Ga., to take on the Lady Bulldogs again this year on Dec. 17. Lipscomb then travels to Rocky Top to face Tennessee, a team that the Lady Bisons have never played, on Dec. 29. “It is always great to play the Kentucky’s and the Tennessee’s. They are great models of excellence and where we are working to get to,” Brown said. The team start their conference play in Johnson City, Tenn., against ETSU on Jan. 2. The annual Lipscomb University Journalism Camp, co-hosted by the Tennessee High School Press Association, was held this week on the Lipscomb University campus. J-camp is one of many camps going on at Lipscomb this summer, but one of the few that has lasted for over a decade. “The Genesis of J-camp was in 2002,” said J-camp director Dr. Jimmy McCollum. “We began with four students our first year and we’ve grown each year since.” Nearly 20 students and advisers attended this year’s camp, including students from Georgia and Illinois. “Many students come here because they are interested in journalism or their school advisers want them to come. Others come because they are interested in the school and want to be on campus,” McCollum added. Campers were given the opportunity to stay in the college dorms and get a real feel of the college life This year’s camp offered sessions on topics ranging from video and photography to staff management and interviewing techniques. Campers also got the opportunity to produce their own newscast. J-camp featured over 12 guest speakers including Lipscomb’s own communication professors, Dr. McCollum, Alan Griggs and Dr. Mark McGee. Campers ended the three-day event with a J-camp rewind that presented the work done by the aspiring journalists. If Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson is looking for a way to entertain his players on the way to Macon, Ga., he might want to screen the movie “Hoosiers”. The fictional Hickory High team, undersized and outmanned, won the Indiana State Championship in 1954. But it was more than movie magic. The Hickory team stood in for Milan High School which actually did win that championship in 1954, sparking the production of the movie. The Bison can certainly use the motivation. They enter the eight-team General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Tournament at the University Center on the campus of Mercer University as a No. 7 seed with an 8-10 conference record, 13-17 overall. Wednesday night at 7:30 central time they will face No. 2-seeded Mercer, the tournament host with a 13-5 A-Sun record, 21-01 overall.
