For Kaycee Green, the Lady Bison’s volleyball game on Aug. 31 against Appalachian State was certainly one to remember. Entering that Friday’s game, Green was only two kills away from reaching the 1,000 mark. After finally reaching the milestone, Green recorded 12 more kills. Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal said he believes the achievement speaks volumes to Green’s talent. “There’s only a couple of girls at Lipscomb that have done that, and I’m happy Kaycee is a part of that,” Rosenthal said. “I love the fact that we’re able to add her to that group.” Green, a senior from Cookeville, Tenn., majoring in education, is number three in school history for the most kills in a career. “I didn’t think it’d take me this long; I was hoping I would do it earlier,” Green said light-heartedly. Green said she believes her commitment has led her to this point. “It took a lot of hard work, and I’m glad I finally got there,” she said. “I still want to get more. The work’s never done.” Statistics aren’t the only thing that has earned Kaycee Green recognition. The outside hitter is also the only senior on the Lady Bisons volleyball team. “It’s a little intimidating,” she said. “I have a lot more responsibility, and to take it on all by myself is kind of frustrating, hard at times. Lipscomb Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson announced today the hiring of Greg Brown as the new head coach of the Lady Bisons basketball team. Brown, the former associate coach of the University of Central Florida women’s basketball team, replaces former head coach Frank Bennett, now holding the position of Lipscomb’s associate athletic director. Brown also served for two years as both a graduate assistant and assistant coach to Pat Summit and the University of Tennessee’s Lady Vols. “I’m extremely excited for Greg to be our next women’s coach,” Hutcheson said. “He brings to Lipscomb a strong coaching background and has been mentored by some of the top coaches in the country.” An alumnus of Lipscomb, Brown also served under Don Meyer as a student assistant coach. Hutcheson believes that Brown will be a great addition to the Lady Bisons basketball program. “I’m confident that he will continue to mentor and train our student athletes to become leaders on the court, in the classroom and in their Christian walk,” Hutcheson said. “He has been a part of successful coaching staffs at every level, and I’m excited that he’s bringing that leadership to Lipscomb.” Brown expressed gratitude for his hiring. “I’m honored to be named the head basketball coach at Lipscomb,” said Brown. “Lipscomb is a special place for me and my family. Lipscomb women’s basketball head coach Frank Bennett has been named associate athletic director. In accepting this position, Bennett will transition out of his role as women’s basketball head coach, and a national search will begin immediately for his replacement. Athletic Director Phillip Hutcheson made the announcement on Thursday. Bennett recently completed his 32nd year as the head coach of the women’s basketball team and is the 25th winningest women’s basketball coach in NCAA history with a record of 583-438. “Coach Bennett has dedicated the majority of his life to our program and has influenced hundreds of student athletes through his leadership, integrity and walk with God,” Hutcheson said. “I personally appreciate everything he has done for Lipscomb, and I look forward to working with him in this new role.” Bennett’s program was a NAIA national power and, in a history-making feat, appeared in the NCAA Tournament in the program’s first year of eligibility. Bennett was enshrined in the Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame and the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2003. “Our mission has been to try to create an environment where our players and coaches could grow as a total person — spiritually, socially, academically and in basketball,” Bennett said. “I have been privileged to be part of a program that has a positive impact on our players’ lives. Lipscomb’s athletic director, Phillip Hutcheson, announced this morning on 102.5 The Game that all of Lipscomb’s basketball games will be broadcasted this year on the station. “We’ve been looking for a partner for a while now,” Hutcheson said. “Two-thirds of Lipscomb alumni live within this listening area.” Formerly known as 1025 The Party, The Game is now the flagship station for the Nashville Predators and ESPN radio. “Ten of our thirteen guys are from the listening area,” Hutcheson said. “We’re thrilled to be on the air.” Long time play-by-play man Jonathon Seamon will be calling the games, just like always. He’ll have a new color guy, though, since his son, Benjamin, just graduated. Lipscomb is partnering the Jackson Family of companies that will be the presenting sponsor. We’ll have more, later....

This evenings much anticipated match against Western Kentucky went down to a final call in the third set before the Lady Bisons lost 3-0.During the first set the Lady Bisons had trouble blocking Western Kentucky’s kills, and didn’t seem to have an answer for them otherwise. After falling behind early the Lady Bisons lost 14-25 in the first set. The score of the second set isn’t much different, but the Lady Bisons played with more enthusiasm, keeping the game close before losing 15-25. In the first two sets coach Brandon Rosenthal had Abby Fay, a red shirt senior, at libero; in the third set he moved freshman Megan Stout into libero in order to let Fay help current A-Sun player of the week, Katie Rose and senior Char Ursell on the frontline. The Lady Bisons went into the third set with clear heads that helped them get a 10-5 lead midway through the set. After Western Kentucky tied it up at 12-12 the Lady Bisons were unable to recover and lost the set 20-25 on a call where it was uncertain whether or not the ball was tipped out of bounds. The Lady Bisons will be traveling to Notre Dame this weekend for an Invitational before returning to Allen Arena next Wednesday at 6:30 for a match against Austin...
