College Colors Day, a celebration of school spirit, will take place on Friday, August 30th, and universities across the nation, including Lipscomb, will be wearing their school colors to show their school pride. Many universities across the nation have participated in years past, but this year, the Lipscomb Alumni Association, Lipscomb Athletics and Lipscomb Dining services are partnering with the event to help students here at Lipscomb show school pride. Students are encouraged to wear a lot of purple and gold on and keep track of their school spirit on social media. Tag your photos during the day on the Lipscomb University Facebook page, or tag them on Twitter with handle, @Lipscomb. The Lipscomb bookstore is offering a 30% discount to anyone who wants to get some new Lipscomb attire to celebrate the day. You can download the coupon at www.lipscomb.edu. The year’s first Battle of the Boulevard is Friday night when the men’s soccer team takes on Belmont at 7 p.m. They’re offering free t-shirts and barbecue at the event. You can also decorate your own brick in Bison square to show your Bison spirit from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday. Free snow cones, cotton candy and other snack items will also be available at that time in Bison Square for anyone who wears their Lipscomb colors. The Department of Athletics is putting on t-shirt trade day during the event to make sure the campus is covered in purple. The first list of off-campus dining locations was revealed Friday afternoon by Lipscomb Dining via their Twitter account (@LipscombUDining). The list included the Subway on Granny White Pike, the Sweet Cece’s on Hillsboro Pike, the Copper Kettle on Granny White Pike, The Well Coffeehouse on Richard Jones Rd., the Pizza Perfect on Granny White Pike, the Which Wich on Richard Jones Rd., the Kalamata’s on Portland Ave., the Sunset Grill on Belcourt Ave., the Nomzilla Sushi on Villa Pl. and the Jam Coffeehouse on Wedgewood Ave. It was indicated that more restaurants and locations will be added soon . Lipscomb Dining has cooked up a few new offerings for the fall, including the addition of an off-campus mean option and extra hours for dinner. General Manager Wolcott Fary revealed that the dining hall will be adding extra hours to the schedule, meeting the request of many late-dining students. “Extending hours in the dining room: it hasn’t happened yet, but it will happen this fall,” Fary said. “The dining room will stay open an extra 30 minutes and will now be open every Saturday.” The dining room will now be open 7 days a week, and normal hours of operation will be from 7:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The long-talked about off-campus dining option is also now a reality, with the first wave of restaurants being commissioned for the fall. “Starting this fall, you’ll be able to use your Bison Bucks at certain local restaurants within a five-mile radius of the school,” Fary said. “The off-campus solutions team with Sodexo are in the process right now of going to more than 35 local restaurants to contract with them each individually to see if they want to become a part of the program. Each contract will be different, and there’s some outlay for the restaurants to become part of the program. Each restaurant will have to decide on its own whether it feels like it can get enough business to support the cost of maintaining the program.” No restaurants can be absolutely confirmed at this time, but Fary disclosed a few of the restaurants on the list, including Copper Kettle, Subway, The Cheesecake Factory and Nero’s Grill. From Jeff Wilson, director of Campus Plant and Retail Operations: It has come to our attention that some members of the Lipscomb community have planned to fill the pond located on the south side of campus with detergent and soap as an end-of-the-year prank. While the prank may seem harmless, those substances are deadly for the animals that live in and on the pond as well as the vegetation surrounding it. It also costs thousands of dollars to repair the equipment and replace the plants and animals that could be damaged or lost. In addition, the pond drains into Brown’s Creek, which could cause harmful effects for quite a distance downstream. Our campus has zero tolerance for harmful and destructive behavior, and we ask that you honor the spirit of respect for our community and our physical campus.
