The eighth annual All-American Dodgeball tournament was held on Friday, Nov. 2 in the courtyard of Fanning. Similar to years past, this event brought out many Lipscomb students. To begin the tournament, all dodgeball team captains were called to center court to sign the Declaration of Dodgeball. After that, the games began. Some of the crowd favorites for this year were Pokemon, the Toy Soldiers and the Lumberjacks. Possibly the shortest match of the tournament was between the Pregnant Nuns and the Dominoes. Team Belmont, a team that has fought for the title before, came out victoriously this year taking the towering six and a half foot trophy. ...

As we near the end of October, Halloween isn’t the only thing on the mind of Lipscomb students. Paint the Herd was Friday night and, as predicted by many, was a major success. The Student Government Association sponsors Paint the Herd each year in the lower level of the Allen Arena West parking garage on the last Friday of October. This was the third year that SGA has sponsored the event. Paint the Herd allows students to spend several hours together as a community partying, singing and throwing paint at one another. One of Lipscomb’s own students served as deejay of the event, and the crowd’s approval of his skills was overwhelming. And, unlike in years past, SGA brought out the paint early, nearly as soon as a majority of the partygoers were in the basement of the parking garage. For a $5 cover charge, students were able to be involved in one of the biggest events of the fall semester. Here are some of the highlights. Independent coffee shops are becoming as ubiquitous in Nashville as seeing someone wear cowboy boots down lower Broadway. Locally-owned coffee shops are usually within close proximity of college campuses, a benefit to those seeking a boost of java. Coffee, Lunch is no exception. The new coffee hot spot opened last week along 10th Ave. South, adding to Nashville’s already great selection of coffee houses. “Monday couldn’t have been a smoother day,” said co-owner Khalil Davis. “People were trying to get in because they saw people in here. We had a soft opening Aug. 27 for our neighbors above us. Our printed opening date was actually Sept. 4.” Davis said he was encouraged by the warm reception and decided to open a week early. “We started off by doing a 50 percent off everything,” he said. “It worked out fantastic. By Tuesday, we had so many people pulling on the door, trying to get in, we just decided to go for it and see how busy we can get.” As for the naming of the coffee shop, Davis said, “It was a mistake. We couldn’t come up with a name, so when we submitted our business plan, we put coffee, lunch. Once it was reviewed, the name stuck.” Coffee, Lunch is what you’d expect in a coffee house, except with a few twists. For starters, the music selection includes ‘90s underground hip hop but also contemporary indie. For food, you can choose from offerings such as penne pasta and potato salad. On the menu are also ham and cheese croissants, sandwiches and salads. For drink choices, the shop has espressos, cappuccinos,...

Responding to the lack of men’s chapel on Thursdays this semester, the Men of Sewell Hall began hosting their own church every Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. for just the guys. This year, as with every new school year, breakout chapel options have changed. But some men on campus have noticed a problem with the changes. Even though women’s chapel still exists, there is no longer a chapel just for men. To make up for the absence of men’s chapel, Sewell resident assistants Hunter Wright and Farron Sutherland got together and decided to create their own non-mandatory, non-credit chapel called Bro Church. “Basically the goal of it is to get community within Sewell,” Wright said. “And just provide that place where brothers can come together and just have that fellowship.” Every Bro Church meeting has a theme, which most of the time relates to Christianity in the modern world. For example, the Sept. 4 meeting was about politics, with emphasis on this question: can a Christian be a political representative? The men who were there said it was a good meeting because everyone was able to share their thoughts and ideas in a really relaxed and open-minded setting. Wright said the best part of Bro Church is not only that every meeting is very informal, but the guys get a chance to express themselves. “A lot of times at Lipscomb, with chapel, bible class, etc., we’re always given input,” he said. “We can’t output, we can’t talk back. This is a place where you’re with brothers who aren’t going to criticize your opinion, who aren’t going to attack you. You...
