[Video] An in-depth look at the Lipscomb: Next plan for 2016

Whether you’ve been at Lipscomb for 4 years or 4 weeks, it’s clear that development is playing a huge role in the future of our campus. We’ve already seen a lot of changes in the last few months, what changes can we expect in the months ahead? Please upgrade your browser Tom Wood, Director of Campus Enhancement filled Lumination in on many of the current construction projects. “The north of the [Hughes] building which is currently under construction is our new nursing building, about a 25,000 square foot [facility],” Wood said. It’ll be state of the art for our nursing students. On the south side of Hughes, we will have in a short time frame a “U” shaped complex. The pharmacy research building will go on that south side of Hughes.” “In the future, there will be two more [health science] buildings. One will be in from of the nursing building and the other will be in front of the pharmacy research building.” There are two pieces of land that the university will have to buy, but Wood said that eventually with their purchase and completion of the addition health science buildings, the area will form a five building health science quad on the north side of campus. Also, students and faculty  may be excited to hear that there will be some temporary parking that will be created in the coming months with the construction. “Also, part of this program is a temporary lot which will be behind the Village, which will accommodate about 50 additional cars,” Wood said. “So out of this project here in the next few...

Pledging begins at Lipscomb, prospective members await bid night

Yes, it is that time of year again: pledging. With 13 social clubs, Lipscomb students have plenty of opportunities to get involved on campus. Students wanting to get involved in their favorite clubs must go through the rush and pledge process. A Greek life rush fair kicked off the beginning of this semester where perspectives were provided with information about each individual club. Once those who are interested attend open rushes and official perspectives, the active members of the clubs vote on who to give closed rush invitations to. After closed rush, chosen students are given a bid and then partake in bid night on Feb. 16. From then on and for the next ten days, the pledging process begins. “My favorite part about the pledging process was getting to know the girls I pledged with on a deeper level,” said Phi Sigma’s Pledge Mistress.  “I wouldn’t trade that friendship for anything, and it really did change my experience at Lipscomb.” So, ready or not, the pledging process is about to begin. And even though you may lack sleep and sanity during the wonderful week of pledging, it is guaranteed to be ten days you will never forget.   Please upgrade your...

Super Bowl Commercials 2012: The Good, The Bad, and The Dogs

Last night, yet another football team who beat my precious Atlanta Falcons went on to win the Super Bowl, yet another half time show kept me trying to improve my score at Temple Run, and yet another bunch of commercials aired that require my cold, critical opinion. So, join me in breaking down this year’s best and worst Super Bowl commercials! THE BEST: DORITOS, VW, SKETCHERS, SUZUKI, and CHRYSLER This year, the dogs led the pack of commercials in quality, ranging from a dog with a secret, a dog with a goal, a group of dogs with a new ride and a dog with a nice pair of Sketchers. Doritos has provided viewers with solid commercials over the past few years, and thankfully, they decided to provide yet another gem. The ad, simply entitled “Man’s Best Friend”, featured a sneaky canine who through a package of Doritos, gets away with a crime that would send shivers down any cat lover’s spine. The carmakers VW, whose 2011 ad featured the beloved Vader Kid, gave us the heartwarming plight of a large dog with the goal of slimming down to fit through the doggie-door (to chase a VW, mind you). Through his training, he managed to win the hearts of every viewer in the process. After the ad, viewers re-enter the Star Wars universe to see the loungers at the Mos Eisley cantina debating on whether this year’s lovable commercial matched up with the heartwarming tale of Vader Kid. I loved it. Suzuki offered us an Eskimo who decides to trade in his sled for, you guessed it, a new Suzuki....
