On Tuesday the U.S. Men’s National team will host Paraguay on LP Field at 7 p.m. Today, however, the teams might be practicing on Lipscomb’s campus — at least that’s what the rumor mill is churning out. Sources say that the Paraguay team is practicing on campus today for certain, but no time has been given. There have been no confirmations that the U.S. team will practice here. [Check back later today for photos from the practice(s). If they happen, we’ll have the photos here first!] Last time the U.S. men’s national team visited Nashville, young striker Jozi Altidore scored three goals in the win over Trinidad and Tobago. Altidore, 21, is looking to make more of an impact on the team leading up to the next World Cup. Altidore failed to score in the 2010 World Cup, hosted by South Africa. On Sunday there had been over 20,000 tickets sold for the game in downtown Nashville tomorrow. While that is down from the 2009 World Cup Qualifier of 28,000, those were the numbers that the city was planning on. The U.S. team recently played superstar Lionel Messi’s team from Argentina. The U.S. came from one goal down in the second half to bring the game to a 1-1 draw. Youthful forward Juan Agudelo scored for the U.S. team following a free kick. If you happen to be going to the game, make sure you arrive early. There will be throngs of people downtown, and parking is as bad as ever with the new convention center being built. There’s also a Nashville Predators game downtown tomorrow, which will only...

You’re engaged. Now what? With the dozens of engagements that have happened and are happening around campus lately (are we in Searcy?), plenty of Nashville venues and vendors are being snatched up for dates this summer. Here are some things you should make first priority when it comes to planning your big day. First things first– decide on a date and a budget. You need to agree on who is going to pay for what, and how much you are willing to spend. The planning process will run much more smoothly if you know what vendors you should and should not be considering. The guest list should come next. You need to know how many people you need to fit into a venue and feed, right? Juniors Miriam Harding and Hayden Parish got engaged on top of Mt. Sinai during the Bible travel course offered over Christmas break. “I feel like what’s difficult for one couple can be totally different for another in planning a wedding,” Harding said. “For Hayden and me, it’s just setting a date. We have to work around our living situation for next year. It is frustrating in the sense that I could either have a year and a half to plan, or seven months, and I don’t know which.” If you are already overwhelmed with all the big decisions that you need to make, consider hiring a wedding coordinator or planner to help things run smoothly. Simply Stunning Events is one of Nashville’s top-notch and most affordable planning companies. If you can’t afford a planner, Studio Wed offers free vendor search services. They consider...

From Goodwill racks to high-end vintage shops, people of all ages are engaged by the search of the perfect piece of gently used and cool clothing.I could go on and on about the differences in the quality of clothing from back when things weren’t nearly as mass-produced, or the fact that the authentic worn-in-ness will beat any distressing of clothes you find in the mall. I could talk about the fact that the cost alone is typically significantly lower per item than purchasing new, but alas I won’t bore you with those facts. What I will bore you with is where to go in this “best of” article on Vintage Nashville. Goodwill, off Eighth Avenue South, near the Melrose Post Office. It’s completely hit or miss here. For blazers and flannel shirts, it’s the cheapest place to go on some idle Tuesday. Let the typically mute cash register associates know that you are a student and they will take an additional 10 percent off. Sure they aren’t the friendliest there, but you aren’t going for a therapy session, just flannel. Girls: picture frames. I have found some of the cheapest frames to spray paint and hang on a wall in a mismatched collection. If you have money to burn and are interested in being nagged by a former 57 year-old hippie, (insert “Bless her heart” here), try Haute Vintage on 12th South. Great selection, and the woman will haggle with you if you pay in cash (men’s is upstairs). Ok, so they always say to save the best for last, and that’s just what I did. Full disclosure first,...

“In Donors We Trust” was the theme of Tuition Freedom Day 2011. The Event was hosted for the first time by Lipscomb and sponsored by the Student Philanthropy Council. Assistant Director of Annual Giving Sonja Hayes was on-hand at the event to spill all the juicy details about Tuition Freedom Day 2011. “Tuition Freedom Day is meant to bring awareness to students about what private gifts can do for the school,” Hayes said. “We really want students to pay it forward.” Senior law, justice and society major Conrad Beauchamp shouted for joy at the day’s celebration. “Thank you for supporting broke kids like me!” said Beauchamp. Hayes said this day has been set aside for students to write thank you notes to those donors who have given over $6 million this year to Lipscomb University. Donations made by anonymous donors, parents and friends of the university cover about 30 percent of each student’s educational costs per school year. Members of the Student Philanthropy Council helped to run the event. The chair of the council and president of the Student Government Association Jackson Sprayberry, council member Bryce Davidson and theatre major Carter Martin were among the first group. They all took the time to explain the benefits these donations had for all students to each person as they walked in the Bennett Campus Center. Just before 10:35 a.m. three freshman, Angie Harding, Jasmine Booker and Jasmine Gales snatched up the last three small t-shirts leaving only one 2XL t-shirt for the taking. The event was held in the lobby of the Bennett Campus Center from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m....
