The Civil Wars, an up-and-coming Americana duo who hail from Nashville, will perform a free concert for Lipscomb students with IDs this Friday, December 3. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. in Shamblin Theater. Doors open at 6, and space is limited. Dillon Hodges is the opening act. Joy Williams and John Paul White, who make up the band, met a year and a half ago and immediately started writing music and performing together. “I cannot wait until the prettiest woman in the music biz is here on campus this weekend,” read freshman Adam Sain’s facebook status. Their four-song EP was released on iTunes and debuted at #4 on the Singer/Songwriter Top Albums chart and had a song featured on Grey’s Anatomy. Their first full-length cd, Barton Hollow, is set to be released on February 1 of next year. Their best-known song, “Poison and Wine,” has been on USA Today’s “Picks of the Week” list, and Taylor Swift said of the song: “This song kills me. It’s such a real glimpse into miscommunications in a relationship. Love can feel so wrong and so right at the same time. I think this is my favorite duet. It’s exquisite.” Their song “Barton Hollow” will be used in Billy Reid’s 2011 Spring fashion show. “You’re not going to want to miss out on this exciting event,” said SGA spiritaul life chair Amy Etepp, a junior public relations major form Kingsport, Tenn. “The Civil Wars will become your new favorite group.” Don’t miss this exciting event!
