Volleyball goes 10-0 in A-Sun for second consecutive season

From LipscombSports.com — Don’t think badly of the Lipscomb Lady Bisons, but they don’t like to share– at least when it is a regular season championship. “We didn’t want to share anything,” said senior middle blocker Alex Kelly. When the Lady Bisons put the finishing touches on a 3-1 match win over the Belmont Bruins Tuesday night at Allen Arena this edition of the “Battle of the Boulevard” meant more than just another win. The victory gave the Lady Bisons a 10-0 conference record, marking the second season they have finished unbeaten in Atlantic Sun games. Last season under the double-round robin format and in the A-Sun Tournament they finished 22-0 in conference matches. It also extended their conference regular season winning streak to 35 games, second only to Hawaii. They are fourth nationally in home wins in a row with 26. “With all the parity in the conference this season it is tremendous for us to go undefeated,” Rosenthal said. “And we did it in style. “The single round-robin is tough. A 22-0 record might sound better than a 10-0 record. But the 10-0 was much more pressure-packed than 22-0. Our girls have done some awesome stuff.” By finishing without a loss it also guaranteed the Lady Bisons sole possession of the regular season championship. With Kennesaw State sitting in second at 8-1 there was a possibility of having to share the title which they had clinched at least a share of last weekend on the road in Florida. “I credit the girls,” Rosenthal said. “To go undefeated in back-to-back years is really hard to do. It is...

Letter from the Editor: Lumination down time

As you may have noticed, Lumination Network was down from late Monday evening into Late Tuesday. While we  apologize for the outage, we have became aware that the fault did not lie with our staff. After many hours of scrambling, our IT team discovered the problem: The issue was that the address record (A record), a type of Domain Name System (DNS) record which lists our site’s IP address and domain name and connects the domain “luminationnetwork.com” to the server with all of the site information, was deleted yesterday.  This caused our site to be inaccessible. As your main outlet for student news, Lumination Network strives to be accurate, timely and engaging. We assure that all the proper steps are being taken in order for this to not happen again. However, in the event that it does happen again, our staff is prepared to handle it. We appreciate your loyalty to our news network and your understanding during the past 24 hours. ‘Ragtime’ sets the stage for thought-provoking musical theater at Lipscomb

When Ragtime  — with its predominantly black cast — opens Thursday it will be something of a landmark occurrence for Lipscomb, according to those involved. “I think it’s going to be an amazing work and a gigantic step forward for Lipscomb, especially for the theater department,” said Mike Fernandez, director of the play and chairman of the theater department. “It’s a powerful play, and that’s why I love it.” The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. for each performance of the play that begins this Thursday, Nov. 14, and  runs through Nov. 17 in Collins Alumni Auditorium. The tickets are $5 for Lipscomb students, $10 for faculty, $15 for the public. Tickets are available at the Lipscomb box office or via Ticketmaster. Ragtime — based on the prize-winning historical novel by E.L. Doctorow –is a Tony award-winning play and perhaps the best-known contemorary musical featuring a mostly African-American cast. “This is going to be the best production Lipscomb has ever had,” said Lauren Waller. “The play is fun, lively and a real tear jerker. It is one that everyone will enjoy.” Ragtime mixes fact and fiction and takes place in the years 1900-1917 in, and around, New York City. “What I love about the play is how Doctorow weaves the story of three sets of different people together to tell us a story,” Fernandez said. “In one way [it is] very hopeful, and portrays the essence of what it is to be an American. On the other [hand], it reaches the pit of despair as we see the dreams of some of these people dashed because of racial inequality.” “Ragtime...
