Students entering the 2013-2014 school year may have immediately noticed the changes to Lipscomb’s meal plans upon returning to campus. In the past, Sodexo, Lipscomb’s dining company, offered meal plans with a set number of Bison Café meals and dining dollars per semester. This year, Sodexo has changed the meal plans to offer a set number of meals per week and a set number of dining dollars per semester. The company has also added the Bison Bucks system, a program that allocates funds to be used at select Lipscomb and off-campus locations through the use of new ID cards. Although the meal plan for Village residents is the only one that currently includes Bison Bucks as a part of the package, any student can purchase Bison Bucks with their own money online. As this is the first semester for Bison Bucks, some students are currently contemplating the benefits of taking part in the new program. According to Wolcott Fary, Lipscomb’s Food Service General Manager, there are three main benefits to Bison Bucks. Budgeting: “It’s geared to you personally,” Fary said. Fary suggested that is a good way for students to budget their money by knowing exactly how much they have to spend. Future specials: Although there are no automatic price reductions on products bought with Bison Bucks, Fary ensures that this is an investment in these restaurants, and he foresees some specials for student’s benefit could be added in the future. “The restaurants, as we get rolling with it, will probably run some specials that will only be available to folks with Bison Bucks. That will be up to them specifically,”...

Friday night, roadside rivals Lipscomb University and Belmont University kicked off their seasons in a “Battle of the Boulevard” match-up. The 17th meeting between the teams ended with the Bisons hoisting the Red Bull Trophy yet again after posting a 3-1 victory over the Bruins. The Bisons, in their white and purple striped uniforms, took the field around 6 p.m. to warm up. Ten minutes later, the Bruins, dressed in red, took the opposite end of the field in an attempt to win back the coveted title of ‘Battle’ Champions. From the beginning of the match, Belmont started off aggressive and pushed deep into Lipscomb’s defense multiple times. For the rest of the game, the Bisons’ defense was not so generous. Lipscomb held their own against a good opponent, taking 11 shots on goal and making 3, while the Bison defense allowed 7 shots on goal. Only one found itself in the back of Lipscomb’s net. The first Bison goal arrived when Josue Chavez, the sophomore midfielder from Colorado, took an open shot from 25 yards away to get the ball rolling on Lipscomb’s eventual win. If there wasn’t any other indication that these two teams are rivals, the seven cards — six yellow and one red — certainly said enough. From the 38th minute on, Belmont played a man down after Cody Stratton was ejected for a slide from behind. Of the other cards, Belmont and Lipscomb each had three cautions. The visiting team did not not make it easy for Lipscomb to nab the win, however. Trailing 2-0 entering halftime, the Bruins worked hard to get back...

The Lady Bisons have spent the last 265 days thinking about how their season ended short of their fourth straight Atlantic Sun Championship. This Lady Bisons team can’t wait for redemption. They are living this season by the team’s new motto, “Can’t Wait.” “After winning three championships in a row, we are in new territory this year with this idea of coming up short. ‘Can’t Wait’ came to me just in the sense of ‘I can’t wait to be with my teammates, can’t wait to practice, can’t wait to do weights, can’t wait to travel,’” said Coach Brandon Rosenthal. Last year was a different year for the Lady Bisons, as the team has claimed a seat in the NCAA tournament for four of the past six years. According to Rosenthal, there is something the team has to regain this season to get back to that level. “We have to get back that swagger. We had a tremendous year last year going 15-3 in conference, and then losing in the semi final. Some of the aura to playing us has diminished,” Rosenthal said. “There was a time we were untouchable. By no means is this a lesser team. I believe they need to find that swagger and believe in themselves.” “As a team we are definitely looking at winning the A-Sun,” said junior Lauren Ford. “Our main goal as a team is to win the Atlantic Sun conference and go farther into the NCAA tournament than we have before, which is past the first round.” Ford was one of three Lady Bisons named to the pre-season All-American team. According to Ford, she...
