Whether it’s going to Key West, FL or serving on a mission trip overseas, spring break is a time college students use to relax, kick back and enjoy the view. However, this is also the time of the year swindlers and crooks come out and prey on potential and unsuspecting victims. To ensure your spring break experience is as safe as possible, Lipscomb Security and Safety’s Patrick Cameron offers a few helpful tips. 1.) Be aware of your surroundings. “You want to make sure that you’re alert. You very much want to be aware of what’s going on around you,” Cameron said. 2.) Travel together “You want to travel in a group. Always take at least a partner wherever you go,” Cameron said. 3.) Keep valuables hidden “You don’t want to flash a lot of valuables. Make sure you keep your money in your purse and safe. You want to limit your exposure,” Cameron said 4.) Always be visible. “When you do travel, travel in well-lit areas. Make sure you travel in safe parts of town,” Cameron said. 5.) Remember Christ in everything you do. “Every Christian can have fun and enjoy his/herself, but remember that everything you do is a reflection upon you, your family, Lipscomb but, most importantly, Christ,” Cameron said. “All your actions should be something that Christ could be proud of. You want everything you do to be an example of Christ, and that everything you do is a reflection of your relationship with...

Many Lipscomb students escape the “Spring Break” stereotype of sizzling sun and fun on Florida beaches by embarking on mission trips. Approximately 430 Lipscomb students are preparing to spend their spring breaks serving others through mission trips across the United States and beyond. This year, students will be traveling to 10 different countries on 23 different trips to serve others and spread the love of God during the break that begins March 18. Paul Stevens, the Lipscomb Missions Coordinator, said he’s excited about all the good students will do on their mission trips. He also recommended that students should start preparing for their trips now. “It’s important for students to attend their team meetings, fundraise diligently and, most importantly, build relationships with their fellow team members,” Stevens said. Mission teams have already started preparing for their trips, but it is not too late to sign up for a spring break mission trip. Stevens encourages those toying with the idea to not hesitate in joining a team. “What’s keeping you from it?” Stevens said enthusiastically. “There are so many different opportunities. We have a team that, one way or another, is going to incorporate something that you absolutely love to do and glorify God through something that comes to them very naturally.” Lipscomb first year pharmacy student Michelle Roberts, who has been on three Lipscomb mission trips, echoes Stevens’ enthusiasm. “Mission trips are memories you will never forget,” Roberts said. I was so tired from not having slept nearly at all on Friday night. I had packed, done laundry and finished my last minute shopping with little time left to sleep before time to meet up with the team at 3 a.m. Saturday March 12 Once we got to school to ride the bus out to the airport, my tired eyes weren’t even a concern because I was so excited to be with my team, ready to go for the week. We prayed together over our trip and all of the other groups leaving from Lipscomb to serve God’s grand kingdom in the world. After several hours in airports and on airplanes, we arrived at the Casa Mirage where the girls from the team stayed for the week. I was incredibly excited to get to Cozumel. Being back there after a year was such an incredible feeling; I loved smelling the smells and feeling the breeze that I hadn’t felt since last spring break. Saturday night, we went to the campus of Ciudad de Ángeles and served dinner and smores to the “angels” and the staff there. I was pretty nervous because I didn’t know if any of the kids would remember me from last year. I don’t know why I worried so much. Even though some of them didn’t recognize me at first, the girl that my family sponsors was waiting to greet me with a hug. I also met a boy who had just moved to Ciudad last year.
