After an off-season full of change, including the hiring of Casey Alexander as the new head coach, the upcoming 2013-14 Lipscomb men’s basketball team officially has its first schedule of the Alexander era, with tilts against conference foes and local competition filling out the slate. Following an exhibition match against Freed-Hardeman on Halloween night, Lipscomb opens the season against arch-rival Belmont in the first Battle of the Boulevard at Allen Arena on Nov. 8. The second round will take place down the street on Nov. 20 at Belmont’s Curb Event Center. The Bisons will take the court against two other Nashville squads in November as well. The Nov. 15 game against Vanderbilt will be the first between the opponents since 2009, and the Nov. 18 matchup with Tennessee State will be the first meeting of the Bisons and Tigers in over a decade. Lipscomb’s first out-of state trip will lead to the program’s first game against perennial heavyweight Georgetown in Washington, D.C. over the Thanksgiving weekend. “That will be an exciting time for our guys to go to the nation’s capital and play a premier program,” Alexander told Lipscomb Athletics. “It will be a dream come true for J.J. Butler to go back home and play in front of his family. There are a lot of really exciting parts to that game to look forward to. Hopefully some Bison fans will be able to travel with us.” December holds key non-conference road tilts for the Bisons against Murray State on Dec. 7 and the University of Georgia on Dec. 14. Lipscomb opens up conference play at Stetson on Dec. 30 followed...

NASHVILLE (Feb. 11, 2012) – The Bison bench may have been one man short on Saturday, but that did not stop the team from scoring 99 points in their overtime victory over Stetson. Lipscomb outscored the Hatters 25-17 in overtime to improve their conference record to 7-6. The Bison’s overall record is now 12-13. This was the first game since senior guard Jordan Burgason was suspended after he violated team rules. The team shot 3-of-15 from the 3-point line on Saturday. The 20 percent shooting performance is far worse than the Bison’s season-long percentage of 38.4 percent. Deonte Alexander, the team’s leading scorer versus Stetson (27), made two of the 3-pointers. The nine points that were accounted for from three is a season-low for the team. The second lowest total is 15 when the Bisons shot 5-24 from three against Austin Peay State and 5-13 versus North Florida. However, the team’s 99 points scored against Stetson is the second highest total recorded all season. The first was also against Stetson, a game the Bisons won 104-103. Both games were decided in overtime. Lipscomb continues its road trip Monday night against Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Fla, at 6 p.m. central. The Lipscomb Sports Network presented by Jackson will carry the action on 102.5 The...

NASHVILLE (Feb. 10, 2012) – Senior guard Jordan Burgason has been dismissed from the men’s basketball team for violating team rules, Lipscomb Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson announced today. The violation has also led to his dismissal from the university. “I love Jordan and wish him nothing but the absolute best,” said Hutcheson. “But he broke university rules that he knew he was breaking. We had clearly advised him, and he was aware of the consequences of making a bad decision.” A 6-foot-3 guard from Ames, Iowa, Burgason owns Lipscomb’s NCAA-era record for three-pointers with 282. This season, Burgason averaged 16.4 points and made 71 of 135 three-point shots for a 52.6 percent shooting average, making him third in the nation in this category. He led the Bison in three-point shooting, having made nine three-pointers in games against Iowa State and ETSU this season. Burgason finished with 1,132 career points and ranked No. 35 on Lipscomb’s all-time scoring list. Burgason was named the preseason No. 24 shooter in the nation by CBSSports.com. “I want to thank Lipscomb for the unbelievable opportunity that it has given me,” said Burgason. “The whole university has showed so much grace to me. But despite that, my actions have not shown a respect for the university and its policies, and for that I am sorry. I’ll never forget the memories that I’ve made here. Thank you for the love and support that everyone has shown throughout my time here. You will always be family to me.” Burgason was suspended earlier in the season for conduct violations and missed the first two weeks of the regular season schedule. When Burgason rejoined...

After a huge win over Belmont, the Lipscomb Bisons were ready for another A-Sun match-up. They have won the previous two games and were looking for the third straight win to continue their streak. The Bisons were wanting to improve on three major things for the Stetson game. “Field goal defense, turnovers and rebounds,” Coach Sanderson said. The first half was a back-and-forth scoring match where the Bisons and the Stetson Hatters tied five times and the lead changed six times. Within two minutes Stetson’s head coach called a timout when the score was tied. Head Coach Derek Waugh eventually received a technical foul in the second half for his behavior. For most of the game Coach Waugh looked disheveled. Throughout the game, the Bisons presented good teamwork with passing around the perimeter and in the paint, and started taking control of the game towards the end of the first and went into the locker room on top, 33-to-26. Lipscomb’s Adnan Hodzic came strong in the first half leading with 10 points, whereas the Hatters’ top scorer Luis Jacobo had 5 points. The Hatters’ Ridge Graham normally averages almost 14 points a game but was held to zero for the 1st half and was kept to two for the whole game. “I thought [Brandon Brown and Justin Glenn] did an excellent job and a host of other guys helping double [Graham] up in the low post,” Sanderson said. Lipscomb let loose a scoring run in the second and kept Stetson under 40 points for over ten minutes while they scored 21 points, putting them at 54 over Stetson’s 40. Stetson...
