Flying Colours brings anthemic pop sounds to Shamblin for SGA’s fall concert

The band Flying Colours made its way from Jackson, Tenn. to Nashville this Saturday to rock SGA’s fall concert. The band is made up of a group of Union University students who have known each other since high school. Flying Colours’ full-length album, All the Answers, was released in early 2013. The follow-up EP, Resist, was released in July of 2014. The band performed songs from both albums, and the first 40 students got a free copy of the full-length album. The band’s sound blends the sounds of anthemic pop and soft rock. “I like to say that it is pop, but I don’t know if many people would agree with that just because it is kind of like nerdy pop. So I call it Sci-Fi Rock,” said lead singer Rob Griffith. Fans from Jackson and Lipscomb students also got to hear opening acts Sam Mcleod, a Nashville based alternative artist and The Pandoras, a group made up of Lipscomb students. Lumination Network claims four ‘Best of the South’ awards at SEJC 2013

As a part of the 2013 Southeast Journalism Conference, the ‘Best of the South’ competition garners judged content in 31 different categories from around 30 schools across the southeast. On Friday night, Lumination Network was honored with four different awards, including third place in the Best Radio Station category. SEJC is a yearly conference that both educates student journalists and honors them for their accomplishments with their campus news outlets and through on-site competitions. This year’s event was held at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. The night’s big win came with a third-place honor for LU Radio. LU Radio also claimed an award for graduate Liz Komoromi, who won second place for Best Radio News Feature Reporter. Komoromi and junior Michael Fox worked together on a program that tied for third place in the Best Audio News Program category.
