Back at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center for the second time this year, the Bisons were able to come out with a narrow 4-3 win against the Skyhawks from UT-Martin.
The Bisons fell behind in the score column 0-1 after the doubles round. UT Martin won two of the three matches in the doubles round earning the one-point lead. Duos Maddox Brandy and Perri Howard from Lipscomb earned the sole victory in the doubles round with an overwhelming 6-0 decision.
Despite falling down at first, the Bisons rallied in the singles round to take a 3-2 lead. Sophomores Sasha Dobranos, Maddox Brandy, and Eleanor Chapman all won their singles matches in two sets.
With two of the six matches going into three sets, the Bisons cheered on their teammates as Kate Popova and Liza Diachenko, both born in Ukraine, competed in their final set.
With Diachenko unable to win her very competitive final set, Popova’s match was a win-it-all set as the score was tied 3-3. Popova was able to prevail with a dominating final set score of 6-1 to earn the winning fourth point for the Bisons.
Lipscomb improves to 1-2 on the season and will look to continue momentum against Murray State on Friday, Feb. 11 at an early 1:00 PM start at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center.
