NEW YORK, N.Y. – The postseason magic finally ran out for the Lipscomb men’s basketball team in Thursday’s NIT championship game. Texas used 13 three-pointers and its pesky defense to take the NIT title with an 81-66 victory over Lipscomb in Madison Square Garden. Senior forward Rob Marberry led the Bisons with 17 points, while senior guard Garrison Mathews had 15 and led with eight rebounds. “They did an excellent job guarding us,” Lipscomb coach Casey Alexander said. “Garrison, for a large part, [they] took him out of the game, especially until he got to the free throw line [in] the second half.” Full story here. Lipscomb’s Office of Student Life hosted an NIT watch party in the Bison Cafe center Tuesday to allow students, faculty and alumni to gather together for the Lipscomb-Wichita State semifinal showdown on ESPN. At least 250 faithful Lipscomb supporters turned out for the party. The Bisons beat the Shockers 71-64 to advance to the NIT championship game, where they will face the Texas Longhorns Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. Lipscomb had about 400 supporters on the ground in New York, but the rest of the fans were in Bennett Campus Center or watching at home. Read full story...

Things looked bleak for the Lipscomb men’s basketball team with 3:46 left in Tuesday’s NIT semifinal game at Madison Square Garden. Wichita State appeared to be in control, but the Bisons had a final surprise for the Shockers. Powered by senior leader Garrison Mathews, Lipscomb closed the game on a 14-0 run to steal a 71-64 victory and advance to the NIT title game. The 1950’s-themed Full Moon Festival was in full swing last night, as social clubs Delta Omega and Theta Psi raised over $3,400 for N.I.C.E. and to provide awareness for drug and alcohol abuse by promoting “good, clean fun.” And that’s just how the night began with Theta Psi member Luke Shoulders chanting, “Good, clean fun! Good, clean fun!” on stage. The lineup featured several different students performing songs from the 50’s era, and more modern songs with a similar sound. The Lipscomb baseball team fell to No. 6 Vanderbilt 15-1 on Tuesday night in the annual neutral-site meeting between the two teams. The game was held at First Tennessee Park in Nashville, which is currently home to local professional sports teams (the Nashville Sounds and Nashville SC).
