Lipscomb Dining adds extra hours, off-campus possibilities for fall semester

Lipscomb Dining has cooked up a few new offerings for the fall, including the addition of an off-campus mean option and extra hours for dinner.  General Manager Wolcott Fary revealed that the dining hall will be adding extra hours to the schedule, meeting the request of many late-dining students. “Extending hours in the dining room: it hasn’t happened yet, but it will happen this fall,” Fary said. “The dining room will stay open an extra 30 minutes and will now be open every Saturday.” The dining room will now be open 7 days a week, and normal hours of operation will be from 7:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The long-talked about off-campus dining option is also now a reality, with the first wave of restaurants being commissioned for the fall. “Starting this fall, you’ll be able to use your Bison Bucks at certain local restaurants within a five-mile radius of the school,” Fary said. “The off-campus solutions team with Sodexo are in the process right now of going to more than 35 local restaurants to contract with them each individually to see if they want to become a part of the program. Each contract will be different, and there’s some outlay for the restaurants to become part of the program. Each restaurant will have to decide on its own whether it feels like it can get enough business to support the cost of maintaining the program.” No restaurants can be absolutely confirmed at this time, but Fary disclosed a few of the restaurants on the list, including Copper Kettle, Subway, The Cheesecake Factory and Nero’s Grill. Food-to-go in planning stages, dietary options...

Campus Notes – May 2

We’re happy to introduce a new weekly feature on Lumination specifically designed for the summer months. Any bit of campus news that get passed along through email or other Lipscomb outlets will be gathered here every Thursday so that you can stay in the loop while you’re away. From the Lipscomb Bookstore: We’re buying books back this week!!!!! Have a graphing calculator? We’ll buy that back too!! Rented your books this year? Rentals are due back by the end of the day Friday. From Jeff Wilson, director of Campus Plant and Retail Operations: It has come to our attention that some members of the Lipscomb community have planned to fill the pond located on the south side of campus with detergent and soap as an end-of-the-year prank. While the prank may seem harmless, those substances are deadly for the animals that live in and on the pond as well as the vegetation surrounding it. It also costs thousands of dollars to repair the equipment and replace the plants and animals that could be damaged or lost. In addition, the pond drains into Brown’s Creek, which could cause harmful effects for quite a distance downstream.  Our campus has zero tolerance for harmful and destructive behavior, and we ask that you honor the spirit of respect for our community and our physical campus. Thank you for helping us keep this area one that is safe for our community as well as the plants and animals that call it home. From Karen Morgan: The parking lots on the north side of campus,  with entrance off Belmont behind McFarland, will be restricted beginning May 6...

Just Love Coffee creates new friends and new families

Walk into the front door of The Well Coffeehouse and your attention might be drawn to the wall just left of the cashier. The thin wood shelving holds numerous bags of brightly colored coffee with names of foreign countries in bold across the label. The coffee is Just Love Coffee, and it’s packaged right here in Tennessee. Just Love Coffee Roasters is headquartered in Murfreesboro, but the company ships its products all over the nation. The local coffeehouse was started in 2009 by Lipscomb alumni Rob and Emily Webb. The Webb’s had just adopted two little girls from Ethiopia and had witnessed first hand the growing orphan crisis. Webb wanted to find a way to help other families through the adoption process, therefore, Just Love Coffee was born. Families who are adopting can set up a fundraising storefront through Just Love and receive a proceed of the items purchased through that storefront. Over the past few years, Just Love has expanded the fundraising program to help non-profits and other mission groups, giving over $250,000 to families and organizations across the United States. The hand-roasted artisan coffee is considered fair and sustainable. Fair, because the coffee farmers are paid a wage for their work, and sustainable because the coffee beans are harvested in such a way that protects the environment. But, you don’t always have to buy Just Love Coffee in a bag. The Well Coffeehouse, located right off of Richard Jones in Green Hills, brews Just Love Coffee in house. With a wide variety of roasts, from Cinnamon and American, to Full City and French, the blend of flavors...
