Lipscomb fans will get to see the Lipscomb men’s basketball team host every game it plays in the ASUN tournament next week. After an 87-75 win at North Alabama’s Flowers Hall on Friday night, the Bisons (23-6, 14-2 ASUN) secured the No. 1 seed and home-court advantage for the ASUN tournament thanks to a tiebreaker over Liberty. “I’m certainly pleased and proud of our team,” Lipscomb coach Casey Alexander said. “I think people picked us to be first, and we finished first.” Full story by Spencer Boehme here. « ‹ of 2 ›...

The Lady Bisons have been eliminated from post-season contention following their 69-53 loss to NJIT. Lipscomb turned the ball over 24 times which resulted in 36 points for the NJIT Highlanders. The Lady Bisons came into the game hoping to keep their A-Sun Tournament hopes alive by winning their next three games against ASUN opponents. However, this loss officially eliminates them from any chance of making it to the tournament. “It’s tough when you see how hard they work and then to see it not get rewarded is tough,” Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown said. The Lady Bisons lost seven players due to graduation last year. This forced them to play with a very young team that included six freshman players. “There’s always a learning curve,” Brown said. “We always try to tell them you don’t know when it’s going to click. You just have to get better individually which will make us better as a team.” Lipscomb is also without a single senior on the entire roster. “Without seniors you know that the journey continues and that you’re building for next season,” Brown said. “You’re going to see…growth out of these guys (next season).” The Game The first quarter of the game was dominated by missed shots for both teams. The Bisons and the Highlanders each had a field goal percentage below 32 percent during the quarter. However, the Bisons had a slightly better percentage than the Highlanders which allowed them to lead 13-12 at the end of the quarter. Monday’s game began with a celebration of Lipscomb basketball seniors Matt Rose, Eli Pepper, Rob Marberry, Garrison Mathews and Nate Moran. The celebrations didn’t end until well after the Bisons left Allen Arena with an 81-77 victory over the NJIT Highlanders. Three-pointers were the name of the game for Lipscomb (22-6, 13-2 ASUN), as Mathews and Rose started the game with a trio of three-pointers to help the Bisons jump out to an 11-5 lead over the Highlanders (20-10, 8-7 ASUN) at the first media timeout. Torrential rain and strong winds hit Nashville this weekend, causing a variety of problems. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) declared a State of Emergency Saturday in response to severe weather and widespread flooding across the state. On Lipscomb’s campus, the storms resulted in an hour-long power outage, the Nashville Electric Service said. “Crews determined the outage was caused by equipment failure. They were able to make the necessary repairs and all power was restored.” According to the National Weather Service, Nashville received nearly three inches of rainfall on Friday and Saturday. This brought the month’s total to 13.5 inches, making it the wettest February on record. Downtown, the Cumberland River’s water level is expected to reach 43.8 feet by Sunday evening. That would put the river in flood stage, but Metro Water Services does not expect the flooding to affect any businesses in the downtown area. The upcoming days are expected to remain dry and sunny. Flooding occurring with rivers and creeks will take a while to disappear, but roadways are expected to dry up...

The rain is continuing to fall in Nashville this week. One of the main areas that floods when it rains here is along the Cumberland River. As of Friday afternoon, the flags and seating areas on the Riverfront downtown and the lower areas of Cumberland Park on the opposite side of the river are almost fully engulfed by the water. The rain has no signs of slowing down this weekend, and those traveling should take proper precaution when driving. Today there is at least an 80 percent chance of rain every hour until 10 p.m....
