It was a busy weekend for the Lady Bisons hosting ETSU and USC twice on the weekend. The ladies swept ETSU 5-0 and 2-1 as part of their “Strike Out Cancer” night to raise breast cancer awareness. Game 1 Sophomore pitcher Whitney Kiihnl improved her record to 15-2 Friday night in game one, throwing her fourth no-hitter of the season. The Lady Bisons scored four runs in the fourth. Megan Rottler singled to score Christen Campbell for run number one. Lauren Dortwegt then singled to center, which brought in Mollie Mitchell and Rottler. Dortwegt scored the fourth run when Mackenzie Tucker singled to bring her in. The Lady Bisons added one more run in the sixth to make it 5-0 when Whitney Kiihnl scored on an error by ETSU’s catcher. Center fielder Lauren Dortwegt had a great game from the plate, going 3-4 with 2 RBI’s. Her double in the third was also the only extra-base hit from either team. On Monday, March 22, 2010 Lipscomb’s Student Government Association met to discuss and vote on many upcoming events in Lipscomb’s future. In April, The Student Government Association (SGA) plans to host a “Think Green” week. In coordination with the SGA, senior fashion merchandising majors would like to join efforts and create “Green Week Fashion Line.” This would feature local designers that specialize in selling environmentally safe fabrics. These seniors also hope to bring in different speakers to help make students more aware of what “going green” means for the fashion world, and how it impacts them as an environmentally conscious society. The fashion merchandising seniors are asking SGA to consider helping them supply snacks and prizes for students at these events, as well as advertising, and a few small gifts of appreciation for their speakers. SGA plans to vote on this proposal in two weeks. Saturday, April 10th, the Lipscomb Tennis Center will be hosting a “Block Party” for the Green Hills community. The Tennis Center has already discussed bringing in a DJ, face painters, and many other fun booths. This will serve as the Tennis Center’s grand opening for not only Lipscomb students, but also for Nashville. The day will start off with the Bison men’s tennis team playing Tennessee Tech. as well as the women’s team playing Northern Alabama. From there, a donor’s reception will take place. After the reception, the block party will begin lasting for around three hours. This event will be huge because it is for everyone in the Green Hills community. The Tennis Center does not want Lipscomb students and faculty to be...

Tyler Whaley, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Organizational Communication What’s next for you after graduation? I have a Legislative Internship at the Tennessee State Capitol starting in the fall. Right after graduation I’m returning home to Florida to work in Real Estate. What are your long-term career goals? I want to be a Lobbyist. I’m hoping with my internship at the State Capitol I can really learn the tricks of the trade and get my foot in the door. What is the most important thing you learned at Lipscomb? There are too many to say specifically, but what I can say is that I learned to trust in myself and my abilities. I feel I have been given the tools and the training to go out in the real world and survive. Who at Lipscomb influenced you the most? How? Probably Nancy McDaniel because she does so much for the communication department. Her selflessness and generosity will always be something I will remember and carry with...

3/20/10 Captain’s log: Currently cruising at 30,000 feet above the vast cerulean waters of the great Atlantic. As I make my way home, I can’t help but reflect on my last night in Cozumel. After saying adios to the older kids of Ciudad De Angeles, my group went to house church with the Chiquitos (the youngest angels). At this house church we has a lesson on personal sacrifice and sang a few songs in Spanish, then a few in English. This was followed by a nice Mexican dinner that consisted of chicken, tortillas, black beans, and a delicious rice based dessert. After our meal, we had free time to play our final games with the angels. Sadly, the time to leave came upon us very quickly and we had to say our final farewells… We were not prepared. By this point, there were a lot of tears falling on both sides. This only got worse as we exchanged “adios amigos.” It was all I could do not to break down right there in that 3rd story apartment. The kids tried to follow us out the door and down the steps, but the house parents had to keep them inside. Walking down those stairs was one of the most touching moments of my life as I listened to the children trying to follow us. Then, out of nowhere, these children who hadn’t spoken a word of English all week began shouting, “We love you” at the top of their lungs. It’s impossible to express in words what this moment felt like for our team. In complete silence, our group hopped...
