Hey friends! It’s been a while, but I hope you’re all having a great summer! Things are finally getting back to normal, and it is wonderful to celebrate the summer with friends! We all have a great reason to celebrate this week, as the 4th is Sunday! With things opening back up and gatherings beginning to occur again, the 4th is a great way to show off your style and your American pride. When I think of patriotic clothing, I think of red, white, and blue, of course! When I was little, my go to Independence day outfit was a Faded Glory flag tee and a pair of jean shorts. While still patriotic, I’ve realized that there are plenty of other ways to express yourself and your love for the US through what you wear on America’s birthday. Red white and blue are still my go-to colors for the day, but a way to modernize it is to mix and match the colors with prints. Try a solid navy top with red and white shorts for a flag look, or blue and white stripes or gingham with a red hair accessory or lipstick. Plenty of stores offer 4th of July themed attire. Target currently has a whole section in the women’s/juniors department of America-themed tees. If you’re going for a cute and casual look, pair one of these with a pair of shorts or a colored athletic skirt. If you’re looking for something to wear more than just on the 4th, Loft is a great option! Their new arrivals feature plenty of red, white, and blue that can fit...

I’m back! After spending half of the spring semester abroad and the rest in quarantine, I’m happy to be back at Lipscomb and continuing my column for Lumination. A lot has changed since I last wrote: we got a new parking lot on campus, Chick-fil-A started serving milkshakes and, most notable, everyone is wearing masks due to the coronavirus, which has altered our college experience. Wearing the masks doesn’t have to be a hassle, though. Not only will they protect you and others from the virus, but they are also a whole new form of fashion. You can pretty much find masks of any print imaginable, and with major retailers stepping up to sell masks, you can sport your favorite brand while also staying healthy. Whether you’re a fan of florals, solids or something totally different, there is a mask out there for you. Plus, they can be an additional accessory to coordinate with your outfit! Try a solid color mask with your favorite printed top or dress. Choosing a color for your mask that is speckled throughout the garment will make it pop. If you’re a fan of wearing solid color tops, try a fun print! You can find masks of plenty of different florals, zigzags, polka dots, and plaids which can add a fun burst of color to your outfit. I love masks that are versatile and can be worn with multiple outfits if you are trying to coordinate. Multicolored masks such as florals and tie-dyes are perfect for this because the variety within the prints allows for them to match garments of multiple colors. But you...

Thursday is the annual celebration of love, but it’s also a time to show off cute, romantic outfits. Whether you have a date planned with your sweetheart, or you’re planning on watching the classic movie “Valentine’s Day” with your best gal pals (my plans exactly), there’s something out there for you to wear to celebrate the season. We’re in luck, because stores have a wide variety of Valentine’s Day-related pieces for you to rock on the flower and chocolate-filled day. If you’re going for a night out with a fun and flirty dress, Altar’d State is perfect. They have a wide variety of red dresses, as well as floral ones, so you have options based on your personal style. Additionally, their options will let you choose if you prefer a tighter dress versus a more relaxed, flowing one. Pair with a cute pair of boots or heels and some red lipstick, and you’ll be set. Francesca’s also has an array of Valentine’s Day options, with an entire section online. They do have some dresses, but I am a big fan of some of their red and pink tops that can be paired with jeans or a cute jean skirt. Specifically, they have a red ribbed top with a jean skirt that I think is a super cute ensemble, but you can totally make your own at home with what you have, too. I have a pair of red sandal wedges that I think would look so cute with an outfit like this. Charming Charlie’s is the place for jewelry, with multiple Valentine’s Day-themed earring sets. If you don’t want...
