Lipscomb’s Starbucks celebrates grand reopening

After being closed for two weeks, Lipscomb’s Starbucks held its grand reopening on Friday. With a more open space, the new environment was intentionally made for a greater community feel. “It looks really nice in here. There’s a really long table here in the middle, kind of going for that fellowship and community type feel,” said senior student and Starbucks worker Cameron Minton. The renovation provides several spots to work or meet, including the large rectangular table placed in the center of the space that can seat around 20 people. “This table reminds me of a family table. It’s more motivational, and the spirit of Starbucks just makes you feel good — the brightness, the music,” said Chick-Fil-A supervisor Brandi Marshall. Not only did the space get a complete renovation the Starbucks staff did as well. According to food court supervisor Kayla Staelens, the dining staff will be hiring new crew members. “We’ll have more people serving faster. We have two cash registers, so hopefully the ordering process will go faster,” said Staelens. Created with Admarket’s...

Quick peak inside Starbucks’ renovations

Starbucks, Lipscomb’s most popular go-to place for a cup of joe, is in the midst of a decently-sized renovation.  As reported by Lumination’s Colleen Casner, “the back wall and counter will be redone with new cubbies and menu boards. The restaurant is also getting new furniture, a new layout and a new color scheme.” The changes began on July 18. As seen in the photos, new chairs and some new wallpaper can be seen in the changed-up location. For those worried that the coffee shop will be closed during the fall semester, don’t fret. Lipscomb’s Starbucks will return on August...

Auntie Anne’s Pretzels closes to make way for Au Bon Pain; Starbucks set for renovations

Lipscomb’s Auntie Anne’s Pretzels is no more, paving the way for a new campus dining option. The famous pretzel chain’s campus location has closed, allowing new dining spot Au Bon Pain to open in the lobby of the Student Activity Center, according to Wolcott Fary, General Manager of Lipscomb Dining Services. Fary says that in order for Au Bon Pain to open up shop, another on-campus dining location had to close. Auntie Anne’s was chosen because it had not appealed to Lipscomb students as much as the dining office had expected. Overshadowed by more popular student center offerings such as Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, Auntie Anne’s was not making much of a profit on the few pretzels it sold. The pretzel stop opened in 2012 and was located in the Bennett Campus Center. With a menu featuring hot and cold sandwiches, salads, coffee, fresh-baked bread and pastries, smoothies, different kinds of soup and entrees ranging from pasta to Indian dishes, Au Bon Pain’s large selection will make this new addition second only to the dining room for the number of food options. A health-conscious chain, Au Bon Pain focuses on creating healthy foods from quality ingredients. It posts the ingredients in all of its foods on its website. The franchise’s second location in Nashville, Au Bon Pain will feature extra seating to accommodate students in a larger SAC lobby. Au Bon Pain will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Starbucks renovation to begin later in the month In the meantime, Starbucks is getting a new look with a renovation later this month. The back wall and counter will...

Lipscomb Dining chips in a few new changes to on-campus locations

Lipscomb Dining may not be promoting any new restaurants or redesigns for the fall semester, but a few developments here and there have solidified the idea that campus’ dining department is always open to change.  Dining General Manager Wolcott Fary says that not much is different at the Bennett Campus Center food court this semester, but he did have a few updates to share. For example, popular dining spot Far East Fusion has undergone a few adjustments. “It used to be that they would pack everything into a bowl, stick it in the window and that would be it,” Fary said. Fary said that he supplied Far East Fusion with new steam equipment to freshen the food. He also explained that the restaurant will now serve fresh food, and the students can order what they want. Because of this change, business for Far East Fusion has doubled, according to Fary. While Blue Coast Burrito and Papa John’s have only utilized occasional specials, Chick-fil-A has added new salads. But, one item that won’t be arriving at Chick-fil-A anytime soon are the legendary milkshakes. Fary said that because the Chick-fil-A at Lipscomb  is technically an express store, the corporate office decides what should be served at express stores. Therefore, unless the corporate office includes milkshakes in the express restaurants’ menus, the well-loved dessert won’t be coming to campus. Fary said that Zebi is doing fine, but Auntie Anne’s has slowed down measurably from last year’s hype. He hopes to get the snack spot back to the fever pitch that it saw during the first few months of business. “I think that we’ve got...
