Coming off of third-place in the ASUN a year ago, the Bisons will return to Dugan Field on Friday for Valentine’s Day opener against Bowling Green State University. But, it’s a new year for Lipscomb. “Last year’s momentum is probably gone. It’s a new team, a new setup, and a new environment,” said Lipscomb coach Jeff Forehand. Since the last time the Bisons stepped onto the diamond, 10 seniors graduated and five more players moved on from Lipscomb, including pitcher Chris Kachmar, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs organization last June. But despite the changes from a season ago, Forehand is optimistic that this team, which he describes as “gritty,” is ready to step up to the challenge. “I think this team is focused. They [ASUN preseason poll] selected us as sixth, which gives us a little momentum to jump into the season and be ready to rock and roll,” said Forehand. Forehand’s confidence stems from the recruiting class and junior college transfers that he and his assistant coaches have brought in. “We just bring new people in. We knew those guys were leaving – some of them had been around for a long time – so we had been preparing for them to leave for a while now. Now it’s other folks time to step up and do their job,” said Forehand. In a ‘ring by spring’ world, how are all the single students supposed to find love on campus? The Lipscomb College of Computing and Technology designed a matching service that helps students find a date just in time for Valentine’s Day. Lipscomb’s chapter of the Association of Computer Machinery (ACM) hosts Bison Match every year to raise money for their events and to help students work on creating algorithms. The quiz starts with basic information and lets students upload a picture and a short bio. It then moves into more creative questions, such as an ideal date and how students would describe themselves using social media apps. ACM President and senior computer science major Andie Goode shared how the matching system works. “It’s really simple, we are not psychologists,” Goode said. “It’s ten questions and the matching is based on if you have the same answer for a question, then that’s your percentage. It’s kind of made to be a fun, goofy Valentine’s thing.” Despite having a matching percentage, it’s not guaranteed that students’ matches will see them. A student could be matched with someone who has a larger number of matches with a higher percentage, and the results only show the top five. “It’s kind of nice, because if you take the quiz and you don’t see anything that looks good, somebody else could still approach you that you didn’t get matched with,” Goode said. “It’s nice to have that extra [boost to] get your name out there.” Due to the fact that Lipscomb has more female students Goode said the number of students that participated were one-third...

They do have some dresses, but I am a big fan of some of their red and pink tops that can be paired with jeans or a cute jean skirt. On Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium, the Lipscomb’s Theatre Department will be opening their performance of the childhood favorite, James and the Giant Peach. The children’s production will be coming to life in a unique fashion, as the stage will be designed like a giant pop-up book. The department decided to put on this particular show last spring. To ensure the performance’s success, everyone has been working to prepare since they got back to the university after Christmas Break. Deb Holloway, the director of the show, has been thinking/dreaming about this production for about 9 months. She said that the show’s goal is to benefit those in the audience, as well as those on stage. “Our first goal is to entertain children, which includes special school performances February 14 and 15 at 10:00 a.m., and our second goal is to train our students, whether it’s performing or working in the technical aspects.” Holloway said. “I think Jesus sets the example of wanting children to come to Him, and that’s what we are trying to do also.” Holloway noted that the play reaches a wide audience, whether it be families with small children or students right here on campus. “James and the Giant Peach will be a great presentation for the entire family to enjoy, but it also will be appreciated by college kids,” Holloway said. “James and the Giant Peach was a great choice since not only is it a very popular play, but it also is a story and movie that college age kids grew up with.” Taylor Browning, a theatre major, is the mother and the second...
